Watertown boat owner David Henneberry tells story of finding Boston Marathon suspect

Watertown boat owner David Henneberry tells story of finding Boston Marathon suspect
Henneberry calls himself an 'incidental hero' in finding Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

UPDATED 5:51 PM EDT Apr 23, 2013
WATERTOWN, Mass. -

David Henneberry calls himself an "incidental hero."

The Watertown man, who found Boston Marathon bomb suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev hiding in a boat in his backyard ending a week of terror for the region, told NewsCenter 5's Ed Harding exclusively that his one hope is to bring closure to the families of those killed and those who were wounded.

"I'm just glad," Henneberry said as he struggled to control his emotions. "I hate to use clichés. If people who were killed can get some (comfort), then I am at peace with it. If I help these people that lost people, if I can help them in their mind, then everything is good with me here."

Henneberry's first-person account of his discovery of Tsarnaev, 19, differs in one important way from that told by law enforcement the night of the arrest.

It was a discovery driven by his obsession with, of all things, the shrink wrap on the boat he calls his "baby," the Slip Away II.

Very interesting - and what a guy! He says he wants people to donate money to http://www.onefundboston.org -- not to him for a new boat.

He took some mighty big chances that day.

I figure insurance will cover the cost of a new boat, but he was obviously attached to it. I get it. I have named and bonded with every one of my cars. He does seem like a nice guy. He doesn't deserve some of the snark I've read over the past few days.

I'll send another donation in his boat's memory. RIP Slip Away II.

I was always wondering: Did this boat owner see his face, and did he look at the boat owner's face?

But, no - he did not see his face.

Also - interesting that his attitude, like the attitude of everyone I know up here, is one of relief, without
complaint about the unusual lock down situation due to these extreme circumstances.

Now I am wondering if this boat owner would have even noticed the issue with the shrink wrap had he not been in
lock down situation all day...
