This New Poll Shows Democrats Could Actually Have A Shot At Winning The House In 2014

http://www.businessinsider.com/democrats-republicans-house-poll-2014-2013-4

A new poll from Quinnipiac University shows that House Democrats have an early lead over Republicans on a generic 2014 ballot.

When asked which party they would support if an election for the U.S. House of Representatives were held today, 43 percent of those polled said they would support the Democrat to 35 percent supporting the Republican.

This is the lowest support for the generic Republican ballot since November 2011, and a good sign for Democrats, who in 2014 will have their last chance to take back the House of Representatives while President Barack Obama remains in office.

Democrats need to win 18 seats in order to take the majority. Despite the positive poll numbers, however, the midterms will remain an uphill battle given how solidly the GOP holds on to a large number of their seats.

Also of interest is the early returns among Republicans for a potential slate of 2016 candidates.

Of all the shit the GOP has done and continues to do to us. Make it kind of a comedy, and a serious issue. People don't pay attention to the news around them. But a movie is the best way to open eyes IMO.

this time, and every time thereafter. And then keep pushing for the most progressive candidates possible.

Unless you align these polls by congressional district it don't mean a thang. Too many "safe" seats out there.

God knows what else in the works (Roberts Politburo decides Democrats get 3/5ths of a vote?).

we are working on getting rid of the Gerrymandering which if reflective of actual voting would put 6 of the 14 needed into the House. But heck, the democrats would not come up with any money, the Unions would not, the League of Women Voters, the NAACP, nor Dean's turn purple to blue states Democracy for America, nor Obama's Organizing for America, so it is stalled. I cannot understand how any of these groups can miss the strategic significance of this opportunity. It almost makes you question their motivation and it sure as hell makes me question their judgement. Can anyone who contributes to any of these groups please explain their reluctance to help us on such an important strategic issue? If any leader of these groups or their members would like to respond or to help, please answer. I am both confused and pissed off.

"I don't belong to any organized political party. I am a Democrat."

"In order to succeed, you have to at least try."

"The Democratic Party: Quick to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory."

The Democrats need a high voter turnout to win. In the recent elections, it is amazing how many likely Democratic voters either don't know when an election is being held, they don't know who is running, they don't know the issues, and the voters don't know who the progressives are.

The Republicans and the right wing in general have huge amounts of money to advertise, and the right wing talk radio promotes right wing candidates.

The Democrats can't raise that kind of money, so they go on the cheap by having robo-calls and a weekend of canvassing. These techniques miss a lot of potential voters.

I talked to Democrats who are not active in the party before recent local elections and many of them either didn't know the election was coming, when it was being held, who was running, and who the preferred candidates were.

A postmortem on a recent election in which the offices were supposed to be nonpartisan saw the Democratic preferred candidates losing since the voters didn't vote for those offices, even though they went to the polls, because they didn't see "Democrat" after the candidate's name.

The poor results in getting the Democratic voters to turn out in off-year elections is due to this lack of support by the party and its backers. They make similar mistakes in presidential elections, but the media attention motivates the people in spite of poor practices by the party.

Unfortunately, national polls don't mean much in terms of House elections, particularly because of gerrymandering.
