A US woman soldier has been sentenced to 10 months in military prison after pleading guilty to desertion while on leave from a deployment in Iraq.

Pte First Class Kimberly Rivera had been serving as a base guard in Baghdad when she fled to Canada in 2007 with her husband and children.

The 30 year old said she had become disillusioned with the war.

Canadian authorities denied her request for refugee status and in 2009 threatened her with deportation.

I don't get it.

What's her shoe size? That's about as pertinent.

She had the convictions to say, fuck you I'm not going to be a thug for oil corporations.

This why I have little to no respect for anyone who thinks they are there to "kill bad guys" or, "I'm just doing what they tell me to do".

Hint, you are the bad guys.

I just facilitated an increase in local Afghan economy, animal health and a stronger connection to a local government leader who is a strong constitutionalist.

The other guys just set an explosive with an nondiscriminatory detonation method that set some folks on fire.

While I'm sure that her time as "gate guard" was traumatic, we do have a volunteer force. I'm only sad that her stay in the prison will be so short.
