Tebow Time in New York Over After Jets Cut QB
Source: ABC News
Tebow Time is off the clock.
Tim Tebow was waived by the Jets on Monday, the end of an unsuccessful one-season experiment in New York that had been expected for months.
"Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped," coach Rex Ryan said in a statement by the team in announcing the move.
The Heisman Trophy winner attempted just eight passes after his ballyhooed arrival in a surprising trade from the Denver Broncos in March 2012. He threw for 39 yards and rushed 32 times for 102 yards and stunningly had no touchdowns as a member of the Jets.

(6,960 posts)... but I'm in Denver, so I went through the Tebow madness here.
So, what is the deal with this guy?
Is he not really very good?
Is he hard to work with?
Is his Christianity interfering with his play?
Really, I have no idea, but it is interesting that for all the talent this guy was reported to have, he cannot seem to hold a job in football.

(8,911 posts)When you play in the NFL, your weaknesses are exposed very quickly.
Tebow's weakness was that he could never throw to the right.
When he rolls right or throws right, his accuracy was horrible with passes
way over the receivers head, or his throws were behind the receiver and
many of them were short hopped. His completion percentage showed this.
When he rolled to the left or threw to the left, he was pretty accurate
and his completion percentage was pretty good.
So teams made it a point to make sure that he only rolled to the right.
And if he tried to run, teams would stack the line to keep him from running.
And his numbers show it. 39 yards passing for the season? There are
single passes the are for more then 39 yards.
He's not NFL good.

(6,960 posts)Thanks for that information.
The way you describe it, Tebow would indeed have a pretty tough time in the NFL.
He has a very limited talent.
Oh, well ... he can always be a sportscaster somewhere, I suppose ... or a televangelist.

(2,434 posts)and I am a HUGE Broncos fan. No, his Christianity did not interfere w/ his play. There were many right-wing Christians who thought he was some kind of hero, but here in CO we worship only at the football trough. The Broncos were not willing to completely revamp their offense to accomodate his short-comings, which yes, were obvious to opposing defenses. Elway knew this from the beginning and I personal opinion is that they drafted him in order to trade for who they really wanted.

(1,397 posts)Tebow had the athletic skills to make it in the NFL. If not make it big, at least to make it as a solid QB.
His ego and his evangelical raving got in his way. Teammates were turned off by his constant references to religion, his constant locker-room prayers, and his inflated ego.
Maybe he'll get his own teevee channel where he can preach, lay on hands, heal the sick and afflicted, and make a pile of money.

He did well in Denver. Maybe he doesn't listen to coaches? or is too unorthodox and unpredictable?
What's your take, I didn't follow his career enough to know?

(14,563 posts)1) The primary skill for an NFL quarter back is throwing the ball. While he may be a pretty good "athlete" for a QB, he simply is not a natural QB, a guy who has the feel, sense and timing to be one of the 32 best quarterbacks on the planet.
2) He COULD be a backup and role player, but he brings with him a sideshow that makes it VERY distracting for a team. The media hones in on him and is relentless.
It is A LOT to ask team to put up with what he brings with him when he isn't a starting caliber quarterback.

(1,314 posts)and that's what I was wondering about: the sideshow. I also thought maybe he wasn't someone the other players look up to as a leader.
Thx!

(26,619 posts)The Tebow tale was really something. He sucked as a quarterback, but managed to take the team to the 2nd round of playoffs, winning 6 games. He won games with lucky passes and a defense that stepped up. Many thought it was divine intervention, but, I say if Jesus is directing the outcome of football games, nobody should be a believer. Giving thanks and publicly praying for victory for a bloody ball game is, in my opinion, blasphemy; as anti Christian and anti God as you can get.
My super Christian brother in law in Texas was mad that Denver traded Tebow "he's inspirational," he said, and he's a Cowboys fan. I need to call him to tell him the Cowboys can get rid of that heathen Romo, Tebow is available. Let me know how that works out for ya'll!
