Exclusive - Boston bomb suspects' parents retreat to village, cancel U.S. trip

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - The parents of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects have retreated to a village in southern Russia to shelter from the spotlight and abandoned plans for now to travel to the United States, the father of the suspects told Reuters on Sunday.

Anzor Tsarnaev said he believed he would not be allowed to see his surviving son Dzhokhar, who was captured and has been charged in connection with the April 15 bomb blasts that killed three people and wounded 264.

"Unfortunately I can't help my child in any way. I am in touch with Dzhokhar's and my own lawyers. They told me they would let me know (what to do)," Tsarnaev said in an interview in the village where he relocated with the suspects' mother.

He agreed to the face-to-face interview on condition that the village's location in the North Caucasus, a string of mainly Muslim provinces in southern Russia, not be disclosed.

8. I doubt that, but she has some theft charges she eluded going to court to settle.

I doubt either parent will ever come to the USA again. Last I read, the parents are trying to convince Tamerlan's wife to move to Russia with their child. I doubt anyone can stop her doing that. Seems like the folks have decided to settle down in some remote village where they may or may not become local heroes, IDK.

Boston has enough for the prosecution of Suspect #2. The trial with witnesses will likely be a long one. For those who believe this was a false flag or see the brothers as innocent, nothing the parents or police say will change their minds. Thanks for bringing this here.

by claiming people see them as innocent, when there has been a confession? It seems to me some people are trying to implicate others in some bigger conspiracy. It is probably a good move for them to stay put until the trial or communicate with the defense lawyers. If I was the lawyer for the defense, that is what I would advise. This case is already In the courts and should be tried there. If the Government has some evidence of a wider conspiracy, then they should present it at trial, but nevertheless, they have a confession. When they gave the defendant his miranda rights, that was the end of their interrogation. If they believe he has some valuable information, then they have to plea bargain. So I don't see any need to prolong a trial because of a confession. and more specifically, I despise modern day witch hunts and religious crusades or inquisitions.

charge? There is no evidence either committed a crime in the United States. What I dislike is vigilante justice, just as much as murdering innocent people. And I definately have a bad taste for rightwingers and neocons, just as much as religious extremists. I'll defend anyboy's rights when it comes to that.

I believe it has to do with her allegedly stealing clothes from a store.

and now they would like to extradite her for that? I guess they have crossed all their ts and have the warrant? Our pass port system must be weak to allow people to escape the country.

in her theft case didn't require that she turn over her passport as part of her bail. She apparently fled the country while on bail, so there wouldn't have been any warrant to show up in the passport system. But I agree the passport system must be weak, if they can't at least put a note in the system to not allow her to board a flight out of Mass. let alone out of the country. Surely her bail required her to stay in state?

If she's a "bad guy," and a "planner," Putin will take care of her. He wants to take out all the trash before the Olympics, and if she's a problem, he has experience in those matters--experience that makes us look like rank amateurs.

11. I don't trust the Russian Intelligence (or KGB) no

than I trust American Intelligence (CIA). Any evidence they have needs to be solid and not manufactured. They still have not made the link, those two were sent here to kill people. It seems to me they are trying very hard to prove there are links. I'll be clear on my position. The evidence is solid those two committed the crimes and nothing further. There is no evidence the surviving defendant has lied, especially when his life is in jeopardy. The mother may have made some outrageous statements in defense of her sons, but there is no evidence she committed any crimes or was linked to some terrorist conspiracy to attack the United States. And if the Russians have any evidence of her conspiring against their Government, they have the means to prosecute her. They do have their own Courts, I suppose. They have no evidence to extradite her or her husband anywhere. And this supposedly new evidence about some sophisticated means of making a mechanism to set off an explosive is flimsy. There is nothing complicated about it if you know anything about electronics. If you know how to read a basic schematic, then you can make it work. And I do have training. There nothing hard about it. Any school kid can do it, if they can follow instructions and read.

Being displayed here. The dad complains bitterly that Tamerlan's body won't be released to be flown to Russia. Maybe he needs to call his daughter-in-law as I believe she controls what happens to her husband's body, not the parents -- keep in mind the Terry Schiavo (sp) case where the husband wanted her removed from life support and the parents wanted her to be kept on life support and the husband won that case in the courts.

Not sure if it was a news item or an opinion but I read where the mom is now considered a person of interest.

guards?

The Russians are hosting the Olympics in that region--they'll be "roundin' em up" pretty quick. Will they start with this crew, I wonder?

He doesn't have to "disclose" his location--Putin's guys already know where he is..

He's divorced from the mother--odd that they are still together. Makes me wonder if they divorced to qualify for aid, by reducing their incomes to the point where they qualified for additional public assistance.

It would be an avenue worth pursuing by some intrepid reporter....
