US Believes Syria Used Chemical Weapons But Says Facts Needed

Source: REUTERS

Washington: US intelligence agencies believe Syria's government has likely used chemical weapons on a small scale, the White House said on Thursday, but added that President Barack Obama needed "credible and corroborated" facts before acting on that assessment.

The disclosure of the assessment, which Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said was made within the past 24 hours and the White House said was based in part on physiological samples, triggered immediate calls for US action by members of Congress who advocate deeper US involvement.

But while President Barack Obama declared that Syrian use of chemical weapons would be a game-changer, his administration made clear it would move carefully - mindful of the lessons of the start of the Iraq war 10 years ago.

"Given the stakes involved, and what we have learned from our own recent experiences, intelligence assessments alone are not sufficient - only credible and corroborated facts that provide us with some degree of certainty will guide our decision-making," Miguel Rodriguez, White House director of the office of legislative affairs, said in a letter to lawmakers.

No one is ever happy if we save one group. All they remember is the ones we kill.

Any gratitude is entirely trumped by the hatred and gratitude is fleeting.

Why the neocons have such an allegiance to al Qaeda I do not know, but the fact is that they are for the most part very emotionally invested in seeing al Qaeda come to power in Syria. The fact that al Qaeda supply lines have been disrupted, and its hold on some important areas has been loosened recently is causing panic among the war maniacs.

It is a highly ironic situation in which a pro-capitalist, secular leader (Assad) is pitted against ultra-radical terrorists supported by Western conservatives.

You have right wing conservatives in Congress wanting more surveillance of the Muslim American community, while on the other hand claiming they are worried about human rights in Syria. They ignore the human rights abuses when it comes to Israel taking action against what they call terrorists. Example would be indiscriminately bombing a hotel and killing an entire family, with some kids. Those in Congress ignores those deaths when it comes to Muslims yet they don't hesitate to exploit the deaths of Muslim on Muslim violence.

They do the same in the U.S. when it comes to Black on Black crime. Why would people even take these guys serious when they are committing human rights abuses in their own backyard? I don't consider anything coming out of John McCain's or Lindsey Graham's mouth concerning human rights of Muslims. And I will make the decision whether right wingers care about me or not, thank you Mr Obama. I don't think the American people need any lectures on the subject, especially when it comes to Bush or Thatcher also. If they could openly commit genocide to accomplish their agendas, they would do so. Their real agenda is to change regimes not favorable to U.S. policy or Israel. Assad meets this criteria. They also don't want extremists, so that is why this Policy is delusional. Obama has placed neocons in his Administration. He applauded George W. Bush yesterday. It is the same old neocon Policy and Obama is just doubling to please the Right just like with his offer for CPI. He seems to be auditioning for acception in the club. I hope I'm wrong but it seems that way.

Nukes in Korea, Chem. weapons in Syria, Nukes in Iran.
We're being set up for another war. The Military complex is demanding to be fed.

Time for young people to refuse to serve in the military.

The US sold Iraq chemical weapons to carry out genocide and war crimes, perhaps they sold Syria some along the way, too.
