Democrat calls on Boehner to retract Libya report

Source: Boston Herald (AP)

WASHINGTON — A senior House Democrat wants Republicans to retract a report blaming former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for security deficiencies before the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya.

Congressman Elijah Cummings of Maryland is asking House Speaker John Boehner to retract the report. Cummings sent a letter to Boehner Thursday saying the report misrepresents an important document and suggests Clinton lied to Congress.

The GOP report said an April 2012 cable bearing Clinton's signature acknowledged a request for more security at the mission in Benghazi, yet allowed further reductions.

Cummings says his staff reviewed the cable, and it does not bear Clinton's signature. He says it includes Clinton's typed name at the bottom of the page, just as thousands of other State Department cables do.
