Protesters Gather Outside Bush Library Ceremony

Source: ABC News

About 50 protesters have gathered amid a heavy police presence as thousands make their way to the dedication of the George W. Bush Presidential Center.

The protests were restricted Thursday morning to a zone cordoned off by barricades and separated from the center by a highway.

About 30 protesters are wearing black while holding signs exclaiming, "Crimes against humanity" and "Does America have a conscience?" Other signs list the names of soldiers and others who died in wars launched by the Bush administration.

Coleen Rowley of Apple Valley, Minn., is wearing an orange jumpsuit and yelling "Close Guantanamo," a reference to the U.S. detention facility for suspected insurgents. She directed her comments to some of the 10,000 people heading to the campus of Southern Methodist University for the dedication.

If only 10,000 were protesting

We Americans are a sorry lot - we cheer on a war criminal and treat him as though he were something special

A stupid, lazy, ignorant coward - and Presidents will shake his hand today and he will be glorified

Fuck this, fuck it all

A couple of the wealthiest municipalities in the country. It's full of oil barons, banksters and real-estate royalty. In other words, deep in friendly territory. Even still, they had to put the 'free speech zone' on the other side of the highway, outside the borders.

The whole thing couldn't illustrate the two Americas any better.

One quibble though... HP and UP aren't suburbs, as they are surrounded by the City of Dallas... more like in-urbs. Or as we call it locally, "The Bubble". In any case, you are correct, they are in friendly territory.

Wish it would all go away, but unfortunately for those of us living in this town we have to live with it from now on. We were there and we did try to stop it before they ever broke ground.

Right wing hack tool, TO BE EXPECTED! Obama? SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!! The rest? Well. What kind of democracy?

Highland Park High School... same neighborhood and town as SMU, recently had a rash of bomb threats and related harassment going on for several months. They only just made an arrest last week in that case.
