U.S. Attorney Dismisses Case Against Initial Ricin Suspect
The United States Attorney has dismissed "without prejudice" all charges against Paul Kevin Curtis, the man initially identified as a suspect after letters that tested positive for ricin were mailed to President Barack Obama and other officials.
In an order for dismissal filed this afternoon, Assistant United States Attorney William Lamar said the charges against Curtis were dismissed because "the ongoing investigation has revealed new information." By dismissing without prejudice, the government is reserving the right to refile charges later.
After Curtis was released Tuesday, his attorney, Christi McCoy said in an interview with CNN that she believed he had been set up by another person. That same afternoon FBI agents visited the home of Everett Dutschke, a man McCoy suggested may have framed her client earlier this week.

So who would have thought the feel good story today would be this epic press conference when Elvis impersonator, licensed reflexologist (and so much more) Kevin Curtis spoke to the media after all charges were dropped against him in the ricin letters case. You gotta watch this.

(1,201 posts)The media in this country is OUT OF CONTROL! This man was convicted in the court of public opinion once the media portrayed him as a anti-government nut, who was guilty. He may well be an anti-government nut, but he didn't do anything and the media has destroyed his reputation.

(94,333 posts)...if they can argue he was charged on reasonable evidence (presumably provided by the framer). He was never convicted.

(5,857 posts)two thoughts --
1) She is considered one of the best criminal defense attorney's in the area -- she was one of the defense attorney's for a (wealthy and well connected) co-conspirator on the Scruggs bribery case a few years ago. Someone is paying her bill. For a federal charge in the northern district of MS she'd be in my top 3.
2) She doesn't make rash statements or judgements. She doesn't just believe her client is innocent, but has evidence given the statements she's making.
