OXFORD, Miss. (AP) A federal official says the man charged with sending poison letters to President Barack Obama, a U.S. senator and a Mississippi judge has been released from jail.
Jeff Woodfin, chief deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service in Oxford, Miss., says Paul Kevin Curtis has been released from custody.
Woodfin says he doesn't know if there were any conditions on the release.
The development comes hours after officials canceled a detention and preliminary hearing on Tuesday.

Hell, there's probably proof that he didn't do it, because the way prosecutors are, they'd be going after him even if there were no evidence of guilt OR innocence.

(11,489 posts)The wording of the letters sounded very similar to other things he had said in the past, allegedly anyway.
The ricin must have been sent by someone who had knowledge of his rants. Like maybe his ex-wife, local law enforcement, or the FBI.
the real Elvis is still alive and was upset at his impersonation.

(1,712 posts)I'd put money on it that the cops just saw the ranting and billed him most likely out of the people who contact that office. Bad police work! (Nah, that neeeeeever, ever happens, right?)

IOW, it may well be that they successfully figured out very quickly who it *appeared* that the letters came from.
Obviously their first suspicion is not going to be 'I wonder if he is being framed' ... that should only come later, once they rule out the suspect.
I'm sure that investigators realize that just because they can't find evidence at his HOUSE, that this even remotely 'rules him out' as a suspect. It puts them in a bind legally wherein they have to release him due to lack of evidence, but they should definitely be keeping an eye on this guy moving forward. He could have EASILY just made up the ricin somewhere else aside from his home. If all it takes is a food processor, he could've made it just about anywhere.
