Schweitzer Considering Bid For Baucus Seat

Source: National Journal

Senate Finance Committee chairman Max Baucus's decision to retire instead of seeking a seventh term further complicates Democratic efforts to keep control of the Senate -- unless the most popular Democrat in Montana decides to take a shot at the seat.

Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer is "leaning toward" running for the Senate, according to a Democrat familiar with Schweitzer's thinking.

If he runs, Schweitzer would be the early favorite. He won reelection to his second term with 65 percent of the vote in 2008, even as GOP Sen. John McCain carried Montana's electoral votes. Schweitzer also has personal wealth he could bring to the table.

Republicans haven't recruited a top-tier contender yet, though former state Senate Majority Leader Corey Stapleton and state Rep. Champ Edmunds have already declared their candidacies.

Would have liked to see him run for President in '16, but he's got some years in front of him.

1% controls congress, regardless of which label they wear. There are a few good progressive Dems, but not nearly enough.

He was a good Dem govenor in a red state.. vetoed many a stupid teabag bill. Took no crap from the oil co (think it was Exxon) over a pipeline break.
I'd love to see him take Baucus's seat, but wouldn't mind seeing him on the top ticket.

I don't have the words to express my intense dislike for Baucus. I will never forget his sneering face, much like Mr. Burns on "The Simpsons", as he had doctors and nurses led out of his committee hearings on health care reform because they dared to want to present the case for single payer.Oh, no, Mr. K Street couldn't have that.

He is a DINO's DINO.

with Bernie Sanders, Al Franken AND Brian Schweitzer in it?

Better: if he gets elected, it'll give him the national face time he needs to get acquainted with the voters before he runs for president. Which he'll probably do, and he'll make a good one.
