Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving 19-year-old suspect in the Boston Marathon twin bombings, is actively cooperating with investigators, according to various reports, and telling them his older brother, Tamerlan, organized the attack to defend Islam.
In another development, the Boston Globe is reporting that Tamerlan, who was killed during a shootout with law enforcement during the manhunt, is being eyed in a triple slaying in 2011.

(11,085 posts)Not sure how that works in court. Yet, perfectly understandable to all of us with big brothers.

(40 posts)...you'll have heard/read that the older brother was the loser extrovert manipulator and hero/father figure to the younger, introverted brother. It doesn't take much thought or knowledge about human behavior to understand how this would happen. Additionally, his cooperation doesn't get him off the hook, though (I hope) it may get him off death row. All in all, there's no reason not to believe him (again behavioral psych 101) since he's got nothing to gain one way or another. In fact, in terms of family honor and respect (two of the very few things he actually has control over) he may have more to lose by cooperating.

(1,245 posts)From recent articles, and interviews with people who knew them, plus the most likely 'dynamics' between 19 y.o. and 26 y.o. brothers ... taken in total, it most likely suggests exactly what he's saying.
There's always (okay, probably like 99% of the time) a 'mastermind' and a 'follower' in these types 'killer duo' situations.
I'd be the first one to call 'bullshit' on some terrorist asshole, but I think in this particular case, I'd bet money this is the reality. It just makes sense, given what we know about them, and typical human nature with regards to sibling relations.

(5,732 posts)and the media just wants you and I to believe everything they say about this story to keep it in the forefront as long as they can. By next week, the right wing will be blaming the left and visa versa. Faux new will be be stirring thing sup on their side and MS NBC will be doing the same on their side.

There was a link at the top of the front page of Huffington Post Sunday night to the Buzzfeed article.
And the police are now looking to see if there is a connection between the two brothers and the unsolved murders.
So, this story has some legs.
Edited to add...
The Boston Globe and ABC 5 have both reported that Waltham police are stepping up their efforts to crack the still-open homicide and exploring a possible connection to Tsarnaev, the 26-year-old bombing suspect who was killed Thursday night during a tense shootout with authorities.
"We are looking at a possible connection with the suspect in the marathon atrocity and this active and open homicide in Waltham,'' Stephanie Guyotte, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex County District Attorney, told ABC 5.
