FBI releases three New Bedford residents but detains two more

Source: Standard Times (SouthCoastToday)

NEW BEDFORD — Agents wearing FBI and Department of Homeland Security jackets detained two men at the Hidden Brook apartment complex just hours after releasing three people believed to be associated with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

A neighbor who declined to identify herself said the same two men were among the three people taken into custody by the FBI Friday afternoon.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, a silver mini-van with consulate license plates arrived at the Carriage Drive apartment along with the FBI and Homeland Security, and stayed a half an hour longer than the agents.
The van left with two women, neither of whom appeared to be restrained. One was carrying a pink backpack as she exited the apartment and ran into the van, which sped away as the women told reporters they did not wish to comment.

Efforts by The Standard-Times to identify the van's consulate did not provide any answers, and the FBI spokeswoman had no information about it. A U.S. Department of State spokeswoman said her agency was “not privy” to the investigation and referred The Standard-Times back to the FBI.

Sounds like they're getting the female out of the country, back to wherever she's from. This seems to be turning into something deeper than just two Chechen chucklenuts on a jihad.

I'm so glad the younger brother was taken alive. At least we'll hear something instead of left speculating about everything.

We'll hear what they want us to hear. Much will be classified.

5. Sounds like immigration violations going on, not sure if related to the bombing plot itself, though.

I imagine you're probably right about her going home for her own protection.

12. The women who left in the van are not 'suspects'

The FBI detained 2 men - whom they had talked to before. The consular van stayed longer than the FBI, and the 2 women left in it. The reporter seemed to think it worth saying "neither of whom appeared to be restrained", but of course they weren't - they left with consular staff, not law enforcement.

ICE arrests 2 in Mass. town tied to bombing case

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — Two foreign nationals have been arrested on immigration violations in the Massachusetts town where police say the surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect may have once lived.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Saturday that Homeland Security Investigations agents had arrested two people in New Bedford.

An ICE spokesman would not comment on the people who were arrested or if they are connected to bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-KHAR’ tsahr-NEYE'-ehv). The University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth student remains hospitalized after exchanging gunfire with police Friday.

ICE did not say whether they are suspected in any other crimes. A federal prosecutor’s spokeswoman declined comment.

New Bedford police said federal authorities searched off-campus housing near the school Friday and took three people in for questioning. Police say Tsarnaev may have lived at the complex.

The two men, known to neighbors by their first names Azmat and Diaz, were cuffed and hauled out of their New Bedford, Mass. apartment shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday

Two pals of the accused Boston Marathon bombers were pulled from their New Bedford, Mass. home and taken into custody on Saturday.

The two men, known to neighbors by their first names Azmat and Diaz — who share a black BMW SUV adorned with a novelty license plate that reads “Terrorista #1” — were cuffed and hauled out of their Carriage Dr. apartment shortly before 4 p.m.

The apparent arrests occurred about 30-45 minutes after authorities with the FBI, ICE and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security descended on the Hidden Brook Apartment complex.

the most common immigration violation is people deliberately overstaying their tourist or student visas. ICE is going to be busy.
