Rape of 5-Year-Old Girl Sets Off New Furor in India

Source: New York Times

Hundreds of demonstrators besieged New Delhi’s police headquarters on Saturday to protest the kidnapping, rape and torture of a 5-year-old girl last week.

The injured girl was moved Friday evening to New Delhi’s finest public hospital on a gurney covered with stuffed toys, and by Saturday she was alert and in stable condition, according to doctors there. She was being given fluids and intravenous antibiotics to fight a blood infection, the doctors said, and further operations will have to wait until the infection has abated.

Meanwhile, the police arrested a 22-year-old garment worker early Saturday morning in Bihar, said Rajan Bhagat, a Delhi police spokesman. The police identified the suspect as Manoj, who, like many Indians, uses only one name. He had recently married and was tracked down with the help of cellphone records in the town where his in-laws live, according to Indian news reports.

The suspect had an apartment in New Delhi in the same building as the girl, whom he is accused of abducting, raping and torturing last Sunday night. The Times of India reported that he told the police he fled his apartment shortly thereafter because he believed that the girl had died. The girl’s parents discovered her on Wednesday in the man’s apartment.

The judge was in Indiana? IDK. The words were what struck me and stayed with me.

It was the case of relative who had raped a six year old girl and claimed the child seduced him. In letting him go, the judge said the 6 year old was promiscuous.

Wonder what this guy's defense will be, no doubt something similar will be used.

'She made me do it, she wanted it, she liked it...'

I'm glad this little child getting help after all of this. But she will never be the same.

for bewitching men who became infatuated, blaming the woman. Incredible when I realized how often and for how long this has been going on.
I've read Catholic nuns who used the same, "she/he seduced the priest" excuse even when the children were nearly this young. Women who protect powerful men, whether powerful and wealth businessmen or powerful churchmen, are sickening...but not as bad as the men who do the abusing, raping, assaulting.

in the new anti-rape public outcry in India.

What OJ did to how police treat domestic violence is what rape has become in India. A few hangings and the message will be out that men can't not only get away with rape but also can lose their lives.

They try to defend the indefensible.

There is not now, nor has there ever been a way to justify their actions.

Violence against a woman is an aberration. Violence against a child is abhorrent to all of mankind.

And we never hear about the hundreds (or thousands) of cases of this that happen somewhere every day.

Who teaches men that it is acceptable to treat other human beings like garbage?

feel so sorry for the men and boys who are raised to feel nothing, who have no sense of humanity at all.

Who does this to boys? What is wrong with society when boys and men believe they can do this with impunity? Who has mangled their souls?

Yes, women do awful things too. But rarely with the kind of brutality towards other humans and animals that men exhibit.

These kinds of actions are so cruel that it feels alien to me. My mind can't get into the head of someone so sick that they'd do something like this. Just why? How pointlessly evil.
