It's HIM--Body (or BLOOD--conflicting report) found in boat in Watertown backyard on Franklin Street
Source: WCVB CH 5 Boston
They've found a body in a boat in a backyard in Watertown. More as I get it.
You can watch WCVB live at the above link.
Three SWAT vehicles have arrived on the scene. The crawl says "Potential suspect on boat in backyard in Watertown."
Just now WCVB have said there was BLOOD, not a body, in the boat.
Crawl reads: ABC News Reports Ambulances have also moved in. Authorities are telling residents to stay indoors. Potential Suspect on a boat in backyard in Watertown.

They found him using thermal imaging. He is still in the boat. He is "pinned" according to the reporter.
They are afraid of IEDs so they are taking their time.

For all we know that could be the poor homeowner in the damn boat...
I hope that isn't the case.

(135,425 posts)I think they used a few flash-bangs to discombobulate him...but no "non-lethal" bullets.
The bullets he had in him were from last night in the encounter where he ran over his brother.

(14,013 posts)gunfire into the boat in the back yard. At the time (and still) it seemed impossible he would live thru that.
I'm relieved we can go get some sleep now...
MADem
(135,425 posts)They wanted to freak him out, not kill him. That's why they wanted everyone around the area to kill their headlights--so there would be more contrast.
I think--don't know, but think--all his blood came from bullets the night before...
FailureToCommunicate
(14,013 posts)then later there were reports of flash bangs used also. My brother was a few street away and heard it too.
Anyway, just relieved it over for now.
MADem

(14,013 posts)him alive? Of course he was going to shoot back at them. So wait. Wait till hi runs out of bullets. Or go the flash bang route.
Now, while they wait for caution, he will just bleed to death. If he isn't dead already.
Thanks for the thread MADem

(22,651 posts)The homeowner reported blood in the driveway and boat tarp looked moved. The police arrived, sound of shots(from the boat, not towards the police) and then nothing.

(53,661 posts)Still an active scene, volley of shots and ambulance there with rapid resonpse crew. Bomb squad had left and officers crouched down now hiding behind trees going to the boat. Also says Putin called to give condolences and that Obama thanked him.
freshwest
(53,661 posts)They say it is definitely Suspect #2. I hope he's not dead. Some talk of sighting with him in a body vest. Police afraid of IEDs. 67 Franklin Street in Watertown.
MADem
(135,425 posts)because there is a tree over the boat.
I wonder if someone in law enforcement was wounded because they called for another ambulance.
EDIT--that shot might be of the office park parking lot. It's hard to tell.
The reporters are speaking in more relaxe tones, and the police are still being cautious (with guns at the ready) but they aren't in that freakishly tense stance we've seen to this point. Also there are more reporters, closer in, than there have been to this point.

(1,262 posts)And hope he gets a fair trial too. That would be refreshing.
freshwest
(53,661 posts)Don't worry, he will have many supporters making their voices heard no matter what he did or didn't do. Boston is known for strong civil rights advocates and attorneys. A close friend specialized in civil and criminal rights cases of the unpopular and won.
So it won't be 'refreshing' for him to get a 'fair trial' there, anymore than it was inevitable this was a conspiracy to frame these two. When you wrote: He'll be dead by the time it's over There will be no questioning and the media will own the narrative of this entire episode, that's how the CTers will push this.
Sorry about the capitals, as I wan't yelling, but typing it in multiple places and thought you'd be happy, as I am that he was alive and would get his day in court. If you think he would be killed or not get a fair trial as a matter of course, what is your solution to the issue of stopping the bombers?
This is real event, real people are dead and maimed for life. It really happened, not a movie. Not everything in life or media fits a set narrative, although I don't believe national media, after they sensationalized this and got Muslims assaulted.

(1,262 posts)Hello freshwest,
My post above was born of cynicism from seeing everything politicized over the last 12 years or so to the point that we can never be sure to hear all the facts - especially when it's more expedient to control the facts using the corporate media. (Learned how that works from Bush and the neocons who managed to change the entire political ethos of this country through the cowed and payed-off news industry).
I'm not a conspiracy guy. In fact, I don't even keep up on the latest CTs. I just let them filter down to social media and make note of the endless partisan ranting that ensures Americans remain unable to embrace united, informed political influence. I find CT memes pretty tedious and predictable, actually.
I also remember the iron boot that was brought down in a coordinated effort to successfully suppress the nationwide voice of the occupy movement - so I wasn't confident the Boston Police Dept. would be counseled by DHS to do the right thing seeing how this "War on Terror" is ongoing and a real cash cow for the corporations and investors involved.
Also, thanks for the encouraging viewpoint on the possibility of a fair trial in Boston. Consider me now very cautiously optimistic.
Anyway, I've been on DU since 2004. Used to post under a different name but changed it when they had that user-id amnesty thing back in DU2 (or was it DU1?).
I don't post much anymore because the Democratic party doesn't fight the hard fight for the democratic principles I grew up believing in. Now it's all about negotiating money deals and throwing a bone or two to things like gay rights which is an obvious no brainer for the entire world and doesn't effect the bottom line of their otherwise neo-liberal politics.
All this by way of introducing myself and saying I'm familiar with your posts here on DU and have always valued your point of view. Thanks.
