Adolphus Busch IV Resigns From NRA After Gun Control Defeat In Senate

Last edited Fri Apr 19, 2013, 04:00 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- Adolphus Busch IV, heir to the Busch family brewing fortune, resigned his lifetime membership in the National Rifle Association on Thursday, writing in a letter to NRA President David Keene, "I fail to see how the NRA can disregard the overwhelming will of its members who see background checks as reasonable."

The resignation, first reported by KSDK, came a day after the Senate rejected a series of amendments to a gun control bill, including a bipartisan deal to expand background checks for gun sales. The NRA had vigorously opposed all those measures.

"The NRA I see today has undermined the values upon which it was established," wrote Busch. "Your current strategic focus clearly places priority on the needs of gun and ammunition manufacturers while disregarding the opinions of your 4 million individual members."

Reached for comment on Busch's resignation, NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told The Huffington Post, "We disagree with his characterization, but we wish him all the best."

...if Ted Nugent resigns.

He used to be looked at as almost a deity here in Michigan, until he buggered off to Crawford, Texas to stick his nose up George W. Bush's arse.

Granted, the rural areas of Michigan still have loads of pickups bearing "TED NUGENT FOR PRESIDENT" bumper stickers, but in the cities...I think most see him for what he is: a has-been rock star whose last real hit album was Scream Dream, in 1979, and who only gains notoriety with his big pie hole.

That includes in Detroit. (Trivia buffs note: The "Motor City Madman" is NOT from Detroit. He is from Redford Township, a suburb of Detroit, and grew up in Chicago. I remember when his mother, Marion "Ma" Nugent, wrote an often-entertaining column for the Illinois Entertainer, a rock tabloid out of Chicago.)

I wish ted nugent would fulfill his self-prophecy and either go to jail or go die. He's a danger with the way he flaps his jaw, somebody should shut him up. But I don't anyone who wants to die over this cretin...the biggest HAS-BEEN ever! He likes to hunt with bow and arrow except he's not particular about whether his target actually is a kill, or just leaves them to struggle and die a very painful, slow death. If only, the deer could spear him with it's antlers....this did happen to a guy...
And, I cheered for the deer! It won.

And leave the NRA. The NRA is a lobbying branch for the gun manufacturers, nothing more, and really doesn't offer gun owners anything other than a black eye. Given an alternative, I could see folks jump.

The best idea I heard was on the David Feldman Podcast, where he suggested someone with money fund a public "NRA Card Buyback" campaign. And it was on the same program that Rick Overton suggested the splinter group for responsible gun owners.

From the mouths of comedians ... some rather sane ideas.

NRA control of Congress is symbolic of a very big problem, that of corporate control of our government. Killing every reasonable strategy for reducing gun violence is despicable. It is time for we-the-people to make a stand. We must vote against every elected official who filabustered the efforts to do something appropriate about gun violence.
