Marathon Bombing ‘Hero’ Questioned By FBI, Police At Boston Home
Source: CBS News
BOSTON (CBS) Nine years ago, Carlos Arredondo gained worldwide attention and sympathy, for being a grieving father who had a heartbreaking reaction to news that his son had been killed in the Iraq war.
Now he lives in Boston, and has found himself in the middle of the marathon bombing story. He is being both praised and questioned at the same time.
Arredondo running toward the blast and helping victims is one of the lasting images of the bombings.
I had to to stop the bleeding, so I grabbed this sweater, said Arredondo. I ripped it apart and wrapped to stop the bleeding on his limbs.
It was the reaction from the same man, who was once so broken by grief in 2004, that he set himself and a Marine Corps van on fire after hearing that his young son Alex had been killed in Iraq. Years later, his other son committed suicide. On Wednesday, two days after the marathon attack, his story took another twist.
He says Boston Police and the FBI came to his Roslindale home and questioned him about the bombing. When they left, they took some items.
They took my clothes, my shoes my pants, my t-shirt, whatever they needed I provided to them, Arredondo told WBZ-TV.
Arredondo says the agents were just doing their job. Im 100 percent supportive, he says. Its very important to support the investigation.

(43 posts)Yes, the Obama administration has, and likely will continue to use law enforcement to harass liberals.
If you don't see that, you are (willfully) blind.

(114,904 posts)He was close to the bomb site. He had physical contact with people who had residue on them. That's why they took his clothing.

(15,220 posts)Mr. Arredondo indicates that he is fine with cooperating with the authorities who visited him. He understands the need that any and all evidence needs to be collected, and he doesn't appear to have been intimidated by the visit.
Let's allow him the dignity that he deserves - that being the HERO who ran toward the injured people and contributed to the number of people who lived. We need to look beyond media sensationalism.
I'm sure there were many people who received such visits, but since Mr. Arredondo had already been in the headlines, it perpetuates again (today) the media sensationalism by having his name associated with this incident.

Patriot is a code word for bigoted nationalist.
They ripped his son's picture from his hands and vandalized it.

(114,904 posts)bombs all over them. This isn't about picking on him and it doesn't in any way suggest, despite the stupid headline, that he is in any way, shape or form, a suspect. He understands that.

(30,247 posts)I was responding to the post that said that he once was attacked by members of the Gathering of Eagles. They tore his dead son's photo. He's an anti war activist and that group is the opposite.

(24,461 posts)I didn't see this happen.
And just like now, the police, of course, are questioning him moreso than they're arresting the guilty-on-photo assailants. Classic.

(8,333 posts)His clothes and shoes may have trace evidence on it since he was at the immediate crime scene. They probably did the same for everyone who was within the blast zone.

(15,185 posts)and I sure hope the FBI questions as many people as they can - especially those close to the blast zone. The residue can lead to many clues.
I also hope we don't see person "Jeweled" this time around, like we did with the shameful treatment of Richard Jewel by the media and law enforcement. So far, CNN looks incredibly stupid for claiming someone was arrested today.

(26,624 posts)Invest millions of dollars into signs that say, If You See Something, Say Something. Put a phone number on those signs. Wait for phone to ring and the information to come pouring in.
Be straight with potential suspects and ask them point-blank, Are you a terrorist? People tend to come clean if they can sense you respect them enough to be direct.
Maybe a little torture?
One of the best places to find terrorists is anywhere that lots of decent people are minding their own goddamn business.
Is your suspect an Arab? If not, you just have to start again. Yes, its frustrating, but you just have to.
Be the terrorist you want to find.
Lull the suspected terrorist into a false sense of security by pretending to grant his demands and instituting a global religiofascist/totalitarian monoculture.
Take away civil liberties, make country feel like a police state. That sort of thing.
Youre going to want to rule out Evan. Dont.
If a week goes by and no luck, you just gotta let it go, ya know?

(16,191 posts)It was shot shortly after the bombing by a guy on a cellphone. A couple of people stopped him on the street as he tried to make his way home after the blasts and asked him what happened. The poor guy was clearly in shock and was shaking like a leaf as he described what he'd seen.
