8-Year-Old Victim’s Father Issues Statement

Source: TPM

TOM KLUDT 1:11 PM EDT, TUESDAY APRIL 16, 2013

The father of Martin Richard, the 8-year-old boy who was among three people killed in the Boston Marathon bombings, issued a statement on Tuesday.

In the statement, Bill Richard noted that his wife, Denise, and his daughter are both still recovering from what he described as "serious injuries."

The statement, via WBZ-TV in Boston:

My dear son Martin has died from injuries sustained in the attack on Boston. My wife and daughter are both recovering from serious injuries. We thank our family and friends, those we know and those we have never met, for their thoughts and prayers. I ask that you continue to pray for my family as we remember Martin. We also ask for your patience and for privacy as we work to simultaneously grieve and recover. Thank you.

I join those who have him and his wife and daughter in their thoughts and prayers. Words just fail at times like this.

This is how bad this is. I went out Monday night and bumped into some firefighters I know. They said one of the dead was an 8-year-old boy from Dorchester who had gone out to hug his dad after he crossed the finish line. The dad walked on; the boy went back to the sidewalk to join his mom and his little sister. And then the bomb went off. The boy was killed. His sister’s leg was blown off. His mother was badly injured. That’s just one family, one story.

No one should have to endure such an experience.

I hope that his wife and daughter can recover and this family can find peace. Very tragic for all the victims and their families.

The family, like many others watching the marathon, were awaiting for a loved one to go through the finish line. The father now has to contend with a dead child, another child who lost a leg and a wife with brain injuries. I can't imagine the pain he and his family are going though. And like someone else said, that's just one family. There are so many others who are in shock by the terrible injuries of their loved ones (apparently there are quite a few amputations).

I know that horrors are perpetrated all over the world every day, but I used to live in Boston, have family there, and know the area well.

This time it's personal.

Thinking of Bill Richard and what's happened to his family make my own petty problems ridiculously miniscule.

I thought the same thing. One poster in particular stated that prayer has a negative effect on a person's health... I can only wonder if they will send a Hallmark Card with that written on it to the this father requesting those very prayers.

That was almost the same thing that happened to a family here. They were standing in the Atlanta airport when a big sign came loose and fell on 3 of them. The 10 year old son was killed. The wife and one other child were badly hurt but survived. They have been in our news a lot.

God bless them. And, believe me, when you are in such a horrible situation knowing that thousands of people are praying for you and caring about you means everything. It gives you the strength to get up again.
