After Boston, Congressman Urges Caution on Immigration Reform
Source: National Review
Some of the speculation that has come out is that yes, it was a foreign national and, speculating here, that it was potentially a person on a student visa, King says. If thats the case, then we need to take a look at the big picture.
On immigration, King says national security should be the focus now, and any talk about a path to legalization should be put on hold.
We need to be ever vigilant, he says. We need to go far deeper into our border crossings. . . . We need to take a look at the visa-waiver program and wonder what were doing. If we cant background-check people that are coming from Saudi Arabia, how do we think we are going to background check the 11 to 20 million people that are here from who knows where?

(30,733 posts)Let's go round up all the brown people. They did it?!
Doesn't he know how much he is embarrassing himself? Doesn't he know that his condolences, and perhaps some actions that only an elected official could take, might actually help the people of Boston?

(135,425 posts)Why, those terrorist undocumented people who have lived here for over a decade are the folks we need to worry about....yeah, right....because we've got so many examples of "Terrorist Undocumenteds" causing mayhem in our nation's history....

(4,558 posts)Even if it's totally wrong.
But, if he really want's to go at the risk group and legislation to remove the threat line of logic here's a few things for the congressman:
White males were the cause of the native american Genocides.
White males were the cause of the holocaust.
Of course, I can understand the conservative way of thinking here.. after all, those are old items, soooo...
Every attempted, and successful assassination attempt on US presidents was caused by white male Christians.
Oklahoma city bombing? White male.
Do you think the names Timothy McVeigh, Ted Kaczynski, and Jared Loughner would mean anything to him? Weren't those "illegal immigrants"? oh, wait, nevermind.. all white males.
Even considering 9/11, it seems to me there's MUCH more to fear from the white christian male than there has ever been of any other group anywhere or any time.
(as an aside, do take this as tongue in cheek. I do realise that the evil ones are a small demographic, and this is aimed at the jackasses like Steve King who deign to stereotype large groups, and in this case, as near as I can tell, apply a stereotype that is COMPLETELY mis-assigned, since I don't know of a SINGLE act of Terrorism against the US that has ever been perpetrated by an undocumented worker.)

(5,029 posts)and that he came here as an illegal immigrant. And that his son died while serving in the U.S. Army.
I'm guessing he thinks all immigrants are not worthy of citizenship.
King is a douche bag.

(20,234 posts)I was looking to point that out myself. The only immigrant I know of so far involved in the whole incident is Carlos.
If I had to choose between getting in a lifeboat with Carlos or Steve King, Carlos would be getting some company.

(16,191 posts)...I have to admit that there's a small part of me that hopes they're here on H1-B's. The fallout from that would be spectacular. You'd have the cheap labor business Republicans in a full scale battle with the anti-immigration "fence the borders" Republicans.
I'm not advocating or hoping for any political benefit from a terrorist act, but you have to admit that it would put anti-STUDENT visa Republicans like King into one hell of a bind and make them look like idiots.
