Anthony Weiner Inches Towards Mayoral Bid With Television Interview
Source: Politicker
In particular, during the taped NY1 interview with Errol Louis, Mr. Weiner staked out several policy positions and offered criticism of the Democratic campaign primary thus far, edging closer to a mayoral bid that, based on the tone of the interview, appeared more likely.
I got to do it soon. I mean, Im starting the process and people are inviting me to come things and to talk to them about issues and Im going to look for opportunities to talk about things as I move forward, Mr. Weiner said, responding to a question about when he would officially launch a mayoral campaign. Ill tell you one thing for sure, I want to be a part of the ideas primary, thats for sure. That primary I want to do very well in.
Mr. Weiner has emphasized his interest in the ideas primary in other ways recently too. Earlier today, Mr. Weiner produced a policy booklet, for instance. In his interview tonight, Mr. Weiner delved deeper into hot-button policy issues, including stop-and-frisk and a proposed inspector general for the citys police department. Interestingly, while critiquing how stop-and-frisk is executed, Mr. Weiner expressed his general support for the controversial anti-crime policy, placing him to the right of many of his potential competitors.

I don't particularly hold Weiner's indiscretions against him. However, I think he needs to spend more time re-establishing himself in the policy discussion arena before leaping into a political campaign.

(25,704 posts)First of all, what sort of weirdo takes photos of that nature and sends them to strangers?
Second of all, what sort of weirdo, knowing that he was guilty, lies to your face about it? He repeatedly made bold statements that he was hacked, et al. So transparent.
Third, what sort of weirdo, once disgraced, does not find a way to live a quiet life? Is there any measure of personal dignity in his character? Has he ever heard of the term personal dignity?
Finally, he has a kid. Bad enough the kid has a last name of Weiner. But to have your dad in the papers on tv and the internet all the time for showing off his weiner is too much. What sort of weirdo would put his child through that?
Go away.

The question remains, what specific sort of weirdo is he?

There are paid people watching politicans every single move, waiting for some stupid miss-step. Trolling for some person just like Weiner to take the bait.
I hope Weiner learned his lesson and can keep his brains OUT OF HIS PANTS, if he wants to be a politican and a husband.

(7,596 posts)It was never mine or anyone elses goddamn business. If Repukes like Mark Sanford are allowed to have a comeback, it should be no different for Weiner. He has every right in the world to run for office again.

(5,730 posts)Newly married, wife pregnant. Publicly humiliated by husband's actions. Also, he lied to his family, constituents, media, everyone. He sent these photos to women not even knowing their age.
The main factor, as concerns his public service, is a lack of judgment. If he had done these same actions before taking office, it would have been very questionable, but to err is human, and we should not dismiss talent, intellect, and a willingness to serve lightly. But to commit such acts while in elected office, in the public eye, is pretty much, well, stupid at the least.
Years ago my flight instructor told our class that to fly, you need three things: Knowledge, skill, and judgment. You can fly without knowledge, and you can fly without skill, if you know and respect your limitations. But, "If you fly without judgment, it's only a matter of time . . ."

(7,596 posts)But not your business. Or my business. Or anyone on this board's business. And definitely not the business of the media or other politicians. So, yeah, I really don't give a crap that he lied to people about something that never should have been their concern from the beginning. And I certaintly don't think he ever should have been forced to resign from his house seat because of it.
He shouldn't have his career permanently ended because he showed poor judgment in his personal life, which has absolutely nothing to do with his job. At least he isn't a hypocrite from the "Party of Family Values". Of course, David Vitter can keep his senate seat and Mark Sanford can return to politics by possibly winning a seat in the House yet Weiner and Spitzer are gone forever. Fuck that.

The reason he is not a hypocrite is because he resigned. Now, how is he any different? BTW, Spitzer is not gone forever - I have seen his many times since on TV, and it would not surprise me if he resumed a political career, as well.

Pity on the voters when they get elected and "other stuff" starts to come out, with some of them.

If I live to be 100, I don't get men. Why risk what's most valuable to you by exhibiting such absolutely stupid and reckless behavior???? Are these men so arrogant that they think no one is going to find out what they did?
