NBA cancels Celtics game after Boston Marathon tragedy

In the wake of devastating explosions at the Boston Marathon, the NBA canceled Tuesday's game between the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers at Boston's TD Garden.
The league expressed sympathy to the victims in a news release Monday night announcing the cancellation, and the Celtics later followed suit.
"Our sincere sympathies go out to all those affected by this senseless tragedy," the Celtics said in a news release. "The entire Celtics organization would like to acknowledge the heroic efforts of the brave civilian, police, fire and medical personnel responding today in the City of Boston."
The game will not be made up, as the regular season ends Wednesday, when both teams play. The Pacers are locked in to the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, while the Celtics have the No. 7 seed.
NBA spokesman Tim Frank said the league has not completely canceled a game and had a team play fewer than 82 games since switching to the 82-game season for the 1967-68 season.

Based on Frank's statement this is the first-ever fully canceled NBA game in history. Tonight's scheduled Boston Bruins hockey game has been delayed.
