Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng Dead at 42
Source: Billboard
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng died Saturday at the age of 42. A founding member of the group, he had been in a semi-vegatative state after suffering serious injuries in a car accident in November 2008. A post
on the website OneLoveForChi, which had been set up by his family to provide updates on his condition, reads:
Our dearest Family,
This is the hardest thing to write to you. Your love and heart and devotion to Chi was unconditional and amazing. I know that you will always remember him as a giant of a man on stage with a heart for every one of you. He was taken to the emegency room and at 3 am today his heart just suddenly stopped. He left this world with me singing songs he liked in his ear.

(12,041 posts)I kind of grew out of them, but they did have some good songs. Sad to see Chi and his family experience so much pain in the last few years of his life, sad to see him go but also glad his suffering is over.

(8,153 posts)As a Deftones listener, I'm saddened by the death of Chi Cheng.
But the main thing to take away from his death was that it wasn't necessary: He could have worn his seatbelt.

(13,324 posts)Really, he'd already been near death for the past 4 years. This is not a surprise.
