New Jersey hospital employees vote to retain union

In an election conducted April 7 and 8 by the Newark office of the National Labor Relations Board, health care employees at medical facilities in Millburn, Wall and Toms River, New Jersey, voted against an attempt to decertify their union, PEMSA – Professional Emergency Medical Services Association.
The employer in the case is Monmouth Ocean County Hospital Service Corporation, doing business as Monoc. About 515 Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Registered Nurses, and others were eligible to vote in the election, held to determine whether a majority of the employees continued to support the union.
The ballot count found 226 votes cast in favor of the union, and 151 against it. Four ballots were challenged, an insufficient number to affect the outcome of the election. Thus, a majority of votes were cast for PEMSA.
The parties to the election have seven days from the election and issuance of the Tally of Ballots to file Objections to conduct that may have affected the results of the election. In the absence of timely, valid objections, the Regional Director of Region 22 will issue a Certification finalizing the results of the elections.
