Americans favor giving undocumented workers chance to stay
Source: UPI
Seventy percent of Americans said they'd allow undocumented workers to have a chance to become "permanent legal residents," Gallup said Friday.
Similarly, about seven in 10 Americans said the same thing when asked if they would vote for or against a law allowing immigrants living in the United States illegally a chance to become "U.S. citizens," results indicated.
Democrats and those who lean Democratic were more supportive than Republicans and Republican-leaning respondents on the question of allowing immigrants living in the United States illegally to have a chance to stay in the country legally, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said.
Gallup noted support among Democrats and Republicans was essentially equal whether the question was worded to include the phrase "permanent legal residents" or "U.S. citizens."

(52 posts)because they failed to comply with our laws when they entered this country without getting a visa? If say you or I were to decide France is a nice place what would they, (the French Gov't) do if they found us on their soil without a visa or passport? I'm only using France as an example, I think they may be nicer than most.

(66,316 posts)When your loved ones are starving, the choice between starting work right away, or waiting for the paperwork to be all in order, is a pretty easy one to make.
If they are "under our roof", so to speak, we have a human duty to look after them.
Or as the Book of Leviticus puts it:
"Be kind to the alien and the stranger, for you were once an alien in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God."

(52 posts)If a guy knocks on your door first before coming in and making himself at home, (in your home), its a little easier to be kind. If he sneaks in however...Well that's just not going to end well.

(90 posts)I hope these folks get to stay while they are awaiting citizenship; I work with
a heck of a lot of them and most are hardworking, upright folks trying to raise
a family like everyone else.
