Poll: 66 Percent Of Republicans Opposed To Gay Marriage

Source: TPM

Even as a majority of Americans overall support the idea of allowing same-sex couples to marry, a poll released early Friday showed that a sizable majority of Republicans nationwide remain opposed to gay nupitals.

The latest findings from the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll showed that 53 percent of Americans support same-sex marriage while 42 percent are opposed. That's a 2-point jump in support since the NBC/WSJ poll in December of 2012 and a 4-point improvement since March of 2012. A number of recent polls have shown majority support for gay marriage nationwide, including an ABC News/Washington Post survey last month that showed a new high of 58 percent of Americans in support.

But even as attitudes continue to shift among most Americans, Republicans have been slow to embrace the change. The NBC/WSJ poll showed that 66 percent of Republicans are opposed to same-sex marriage — a stark contrast to the 73 percent of Democrats who support giving gay and lesbian couples the right to tie the knot. That level of opposition may place national Republican leaders who are trying to soften the party's stance on issues related to gay rights in an awkward position. As TPM has previously reported, a number of state and local GOP officials have already signaled that they are not on board with the party's newfound outreach efforts to the LGBT community.

We will have to establish a big grass roots campaign to prove we are the winning party. We are strong.

4. one more reason why the republicans are going into the dustbin of history

being opposed to what the majority of Americans want is not good for a political
party .... along w/being against equal pay for woman, sensible gun laws, the environment,
social security, and so many more "things."

This is also why the republicans have to gerrymander districts, do voter suppression,
manipulate the media, and have electronic voting machines where the results can be
manipulated ..... "they" know they are on the wrong side of history and public opinion.*

* Watch the video of John McCain's rage when pressed on why he was against gays in the
military he knows that he is on the wrong side of history.

Messing with the Electoral college? If the GOPers can't win, they will steal it because its their GAWD's will.

Interracial Marriage: Many Deep South Republican Voters Believe Interracial Marriage Should Be Illegal

Despite the fact that the number of interracial marriages in the U.S. reached an all-time high this year, there are many who still believe that mixed-race marriage is unacceptable and should be made illegal, according to a new report.

On Monday, polling firm Public Policy Polling (PPP) revealed that 29 percent of likely GOP voters surveyed in Mississippi believe that interracial marriage should be illegal. Fifty-four percent said intermarriage should remain legal, and the rest responded that they weren't sure. The survey also found that 21 percent of likely GOP voters polled in Alabama believe that interracial marriage should be illegal.

Bet most of those who said it should be legal would raise holy hell if their daughter brought home a black guy. A lot of people wouldn't completely shit the bed if its their son, but their daughter... Oh the south, so many positive things wrapped in bigotry.

is the same 33% of the TPs in their party...no surprise. We have always known they are bigoted, racist, misogynistic deviants from humanity.

Yep, I'd like to see a poll taken among the 66% to see just how many of them have been married multiple times, since they're apparently so concerned about the sanctity of others' marriages. Jesus had nothing to say about gays but he had plenty to say about divorce, such as "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery" (Matt. 19: 9).
Are you listening, Newt?
