Police raid Samsung offices over LG allegations

Source: Bloomberg

Law enforcement officers raided the headquarters of Samsung’s (005930) display unit in South Korea this week over allegations that it stole OLED technology from LG Display (LPL), Bloomberg reported. Officers sought to gather evidence and determine whether partners of the rival display-maker leaked its technology secrets and if Samsung was involved in any way. The two companies have been butting heads recently with a string of patent infringement lawsuits stemming from charges filed against six LG employees who were found to have stolen Samsung’s OLED technology last July.

A Samsung spokesperson denied the recent allegations, claiming that the company has “no reason to steal other companies’ technology” because it already has “the world’s best OLED technology,” while an LG spokesperson denied that it reported Samsung to the police.

“The latest investigation is related to large-sized OLED TV panel technology, but the police have made the allegation themselves,” Son Young Jun, an LG Display spokesman, told Bloomberg.

horrid. one of the main reasons the HTC Evo (yes it's last name is absurd) 4G LTE (Sprint) looked far better. HD LED. better than OLED which hurts the crap out of my eyes. LG is good but their screens are easy to look at. why would LG want their screens to be hard to see. (might be the prism in my glasses) except for movies the thing gives me headaches. Isn't raid too strong a word.

Yeah someone physically raided Vudu. rather illegally but they took all the drives.

The ones in stores are always running with the brightness all the way up and it wouldn't surprise me if there's some display-unit software that's blowing out the saturation, too...the OLED on my phone is nowhere near as "vivid" as the store model. I find it preferable to an LCD but that's just me.

Also, I highly doubt Samsung stole LG's info. They do shamelessly copy industrial design but as far as actual tech goes they're far and away the market leader...OP just has the biggest axe in history to grind with them (and Google).

The stock refresh rate on those screens is too high. It is called "Smart Motion" on some Samsung's. It is what gives a show or movie that feel like you are on the set, or "too real". I can't even watch it when it is like that. That is supposed to be for sports.

That being said I got a 60 inch thin-bezel LG plasma for $750 at Costco last weekend, and the picture is amazing.
