Source: USA Today

TOMS RIVER, N.J. -- A 6-year-old boy is hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday after he was accidentally shot in the head Monday night, apparently by a 4-year-old neighbor with a .22-caliber rifle, police said.

The 6-year-old victim was flown by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, Police Chief Mastronardy said.

Guns heal all wounds, you know. And cause most of them, too.

8. This is the THIRD incident of this type that I have read about

today. Until society demands that irresponsible gun owners are held accountable for their negligence (and failure to properly secure guns and/or leaving loaded guns laying around where children are present is negligent behavior), incidents like this will continue to occur. It seems like there is at least one incident like that occurring every week. It is ridiculous.

It is apparent that the safety of children is just not of paramount importance to some gun owners. You can't cure stupidity. Maybe if some of these idiots started getting sent to prison it might make some of these idiots think twice about their actions (or lack there of).

These idiots need to know that there will be real life consequences for their bad decisions. It is unfair to the children involved that they are forced to face the consequences of stupid people.

...and came back out with the gun. Parents were in the house at the time.
If a gun is lying out where a four-year-old can reach it, then the adults who did NOT secure the gun are liable for the death of the six-year-old.
It should be that simple. It S H O U L D be.

If that means both parents so be it. And if a family member can't be found to take him, then sux to the kid, CPS meatgrinder is his lot for the next 14 years.

I don't wish it upon him, but nor do I think the responsible should be premitted to escape due punishment, because he might suffer alongside them.

The parents that left a loaded rifle laying around are accessories to murder. The 4 year old can not be tried, but both parents should stand trial for murder.
