Obama to nominate members to National Labor Relations Board
Source: Associated Press
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama is nominating three candidates for full terms on the National Labor Relations Board, which has been in limbo since a federal appeals court invalidated his recess appointments to the agency.
Obama on Tuesday urged the Senate to move swiftly in confirming the members -- two Republicans and one Democrat -- along with two other Democrats he nominated in February. That would fill all five seats on the board.
"By enforcing workplace protections, upholding the rights of workers and providing a stable workplace environment for businesses, the NLRB plays a vital role in our efforts to grow the economy and strengthen the middle class," Obama said in a statement.
The move comes as House Republicans prepare to vote this week on a measure that would effectively shut down the board until it has permanent members confirmed by the Senate.

(4,435 posts)There is NOTHING that says the President has to nominate someone of the other party for NLRB.
There is no "republican seat and democrat seat". It's strictly whoever the President nominated, and the Senate confirms. See 29 USC section 153- it's the sole nominating authority of the President.

(31,974 posts)When Roosevelt started the NLRB in 1935 he staffed it with neutral career members. They were neither pro-union or pro-management. That changed in 1953 and now the members are either pro-union or pro-management. This leads to bad law because every time the party changes at the presidential level labor law gets turned on its head.

THIS is who our President just nominated!
