John McCain on Sunday urged Republicans not to filibuster new gun control legislation.

"I don’t understand it. The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand," he said on CBS' Face The Nation. "I would not only encourage it, I don’t understand it. What are we afraid of?"

Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has vowedhas vowedo filibuster gun control. Paul has referred to the bill as "oppression of a government." A dozen other senators have promised to join Paul, who also filibustered John Brennan's confirmation as CIA director.

McCain said that filibusters silence the crucial discussions that take place around legislation.

and my daughter's childhood Iraq and Afgan Vets, is that the majority of Vets who had to actually kill (not support personnel), are very much for gun control. They KNOW what it feels like to kill another human being. Arm Chair Warriors DON'T. While not a fan of McCain, I can understand why he is saying this.

John McCain is the voice of reason in the Senate. Then again, compaired to Rand Paul he is a model of sanity and probity. (Odd, using those words in connection with McCain!)

4. NOBODY who's a proponent of ayn rand EVER gets my vote!!!! EVER!!!!

I do believe he flatters himself into thinking he is presidential material. Funny that he worships that Apostle of Selfishness ayn rand, while he'd probably be first in line to vote for a mandate that declares America a "Christian nation." NO Christian has ANY business espousing an ayn rand philosophy!!! Who knows, maybe ayn rand was the Antichrist? She sure is the antithesis of everything I was taught that Jesus stood for.

Everyone who publicity state a admiration for Ayn Rand should be disqualified for every office in the land - that be in US or in Norway... Or other nations of the world.. In fact if you state admiration for Ayn Rand you should be committed to a mental hospital, for a real checkup as what they propose is dangerous as hell.. After all people who is telling everyone they are Napoleon Bonaparte is hospitalized for a long time - and they are for the most part harmless and friendly - just with an odd habit of believing they are a french emperor..

I'll have to find the transcript and/or video for these comments.

but there is NO DOUBT that they both FINE examples of POLITICIANS. Thye can read polls, and when approval for Universal Background Checks clocks in at at least 80% across EVERY POLLED DEMOGRAPHIC, they know which side the bread is being buttered on. They're NOT stupid.

This is isn't about ideology for them, it's about being smart enough to crunch the numbers of keeping yourself employable lol.

Whatever, I'll take it this time.

He's not afraid to stand up to his party, and he's not afraid to state his convictions no matter what it costs him. I didn't vote for him years ago because I was sick of Bushonomics, but I still had to respect him.

I would not vote for him, but I do respect him. He is using some common sense this time around. He will be villified by his party and the NRA but who cares. Just debate and vote the issue. Well said Senator McCain!
