Five Egyptians were killed and eight wounded in clashes between Christians and Muslims in a town

Five Egyptians were killed and eight wounded in clashes between Christians and Muslims in a town near Cairo, security sources said on Saturday, in the latest sectarian violence in the most populous Arab state.

Christian-Muslim confrontations have increased in Muslim-majority Egypt since the overthrow of former President Hosni Mubarak in 2011 gave freer rein to hardline Islamists repressed under his rule.

Four Christians and one Muslim were killed when members of both communities started shooting at each other in Khusus outside the Egyptian capital, the sources said.

State news agency MENA put the death toll at four.

The violence broke out late on Friday when a group of Christian children were drawing on a wall of a Muslim religious institute, the security sources said. No more details were immediately available.

MENA quoted a Christian official as saying unidentified assailants had attacked a local church during the clashes and set parts of it on fire. Police had stepped up security at the church after Muslim youths began gathering in the area.

The town was quiet on Saturday with a heavy security presence, a security source said. Some 15 police cars were patrolling the streets. Police detained 15 people.

President Mohamed Mursi, a Muslim Brotherhood leader elected in June, has promised to protect the

and I'm not a fan of any religion in particular, but few posters seem capable of placing the blame where it rely lies - the Morsi headed MUSLIM Brotherhood government of Egypt.

Give me one current government in a majority Muslim country that is totally tolerant of minority faiths and women's rights. And don't give me some shit about the Crusades and where Christianity was 600 years ago. The fact is that ever since the Brotherhood came into power, Egypt is heading toward another Muslim fundamentalist state. Churches have been attacked and women are in a worse position now than under Mubarak.

I won't be holding my breath though. Most on this site have an easy time condemning the stupid things the Pope says or the shit republicans pull, but it's pretty clear that many liberals have a weird blind spot for Islam. I just don't fucking get it.

No seriously, we would be blind without you to jump on a story like this and go "SEE DU? SEE!?". Keep up the good work soldier.

DU does indeed have a blind spot

and has been here much longer than you so has seen what they are posting about for a longer time. Thread after thread bashing Christianity (the pope threads only being the most recent) and nobody has a problem. Point out that Islam is wretched in terms of women's and minority rights and you're an islamophobe and colonialist. It's incredibly hypocritical but par for the course around here so you can save your smilies, anybody honest knows it's the truth.

Should you not be more concerned with the topic at hand( warning Americans about Mulsims before it's too late) rather than worrying about reg dates on a forum?

That's what your profile says. Take it up with the administrators. And I'm quite capable of multi-tasking. Adults are good at that. Well...most adults.

Thank you for pointing that out for me with that astute and stalkery observation. I never would have known without you, just like I never would have known about the Muslim menace without your dogged vigilance.

I have been visiting the site since launch. I, like most DUers, lurked for a period of time before registering. I just lurked a little longer than most because I was going to school and working full time and had little time to post. Now I just work.

DU sure has changed a lot since then. For example, someone like yourself coming in and spamming, word for word , bigotted Hannity/Beck/Rush talking points under a thin veil about a strongly Democratic demographic would have been tombstoned as soon as people caught on. I blame the Kerry loss; the site never seemed to fully recover from that.

And now you know the rest of the story. I'm out of town for a few days, toodles.

It's simply KILLING me that I can't be a good Democrat like yourself. What's that? Oh yes, I have been here and posting since that golden time you refer to - you know, when we didn't have purity police stinking up the joint.

It seems to me that there are people who actively determine where and when the violence "breaks out". They also determine who the victims they "clash with" will be.
