(3,936 posts)He got the video, alerted the University President and fired the coach. It's not like he facilitated some coverup.

(38,359 posts)He threw balls at the students/players..hit one in the head......on the video that we saw....
that is what the coach did...so...that is what warrents a suspension..eh?
The coach is a hired teacher...sort to speak...
If I as a hired public teacher threw something at a student's head, and it hit the head...I would have been charged with a felony and arrested...
...This athletic director got what he deserved...no job..no more...in that field...Think about it again..your employee hits someone...potentially hurting him/her...and you negotiate with that person over a ..suspension ...but the employee has done similar events several times..not just once..over and over...so ...wait..it is a coach...it is a player...and then that is ok.........
just think about it.....
Oh.....and to add this: It ain't over yet....if that atletic director reported this to his superiors...and I think he did...well...they will be gone too...good..they are assholes..........covering up this .......every teacher I know of who hit someone publically lost his/her job...once..a principal who had the best ,,,very best connections..in the entire city....(Chicago) was accused of molesting and abusing students.......
because of his connections.................
he got a suspension.....also...........
........... finally an indictment....then a public trial..on that abuse..then.found guilty..on having sex with students multiple times....
..8 to 10 in jail...yes..it was in the 80s and he served his term... the system often tries to protects the true assholes..
......And it did protect this coach till this video was posted...and others saw it....what..2 or 3 days ago...he was protected....shit...

(179 posts)which includes sexist and homophobic insults seems to receive much less press and much less reaction.
It is abhorrent that this kind of language was tolerated at a state run school of higher education. I would think they have significant policies regarding diversity/discrimination/hate speach and the like. Or does it receive a pass.......boys being boys?
There people defending the coach in the media and even players quoted in the news today, defending the coach and saying that things were "taken out of context". Well, what kind of context is being called "f***in Pu**ies and F***in fa**ots acceptable?!?!?!

Just another way in which society is sick.

(38,359 posts)Evidently, a report was given to the president of Rutgers, and he failed to ask to see the video.....This person is named Robert Barchi.
He is a doctor who is a lifer college administrator..He will soon be returned to the medical profession in my opinion for what it is worth.

At a news conference Friday afternoon, Barchi cited a failure of process. He said he was given a summary report of the situation by Pernetti last fall but he did not see the video until Tuesday night.
I regret that I did not ask to see the video when Tim first told me of its existence because I am certain that this situation would have had a very different outcome had I done so, Barchi said.

(2,029 posts)and Rice should have been fired then. But, what I don't think I've heard or read is if Rice complied with the terms of his suspension and rehabilitation.
If he did, doesn't the University have a problem firing him now? I'm not defending him - he should have been fired instantly. But, if Rutgers suspended him and allowed him to keep his job on the condition that he go through counseling and stop the behavior, should they fire him now?
If I make a mistake at work (nothing anywhere near as egregious as his behavior), take a suspension, and work through a performance improvement plan should my employer fire me anyway four months later?

(64 posts)There was some kind of collusion going on behind the scenes...AD shut up and tape didn't surface until after coach qualified for bonus!
