Inhofe: Prepare preemptive strike 'right now' on North Korea
Source: The Hill
Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) said that the United States should be prepared to launch a pre-emptive strike "right now" against North Korea, warning that its "deranged" president Kim Jong Un could attempt a nuclear attack on America.
We should be prepared to do it right now, Inhofe, the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, told Newsmax TVs The Steve Malzberg Show on Wednesday.
In terms of the capability we have out there with the F-22s and the battleships
a pre-emptive strike from something like that would get their attention.
Inhofe went on to say that Kim Jong Un, unlike his father, was not a reliable actor that could be reasoned with. . .

With video. Madman rejects any steps to combat climate change but wants to initiate combat through preemptive war. Typical for him, I guess.

(13,485 posts)said that many times. Almost every time they make a statement they say they will strike pre-emptively at their will.
But we don't need to add another name to the "idiots in power" list. Inhofe is not what I consider a reasonable person and I really don't see any difference between the two.

It's an extremist, warmongering poo-tailed hawk opportunity to get some press and speak up for the insanity contained within. Somebody has to do it.
I wonder if they draw lots, point at one of their own and say, "your turn" or if it is just some random form of emergent chaos manifesting as a big, drooling mouth connected directly to defense contractors?
No offense to septic tanks, BTW.

(32,886 posts)But... that brings up the point that an attack would not be a "preemptive strike", so Inhofe isn't using the right terminology.
Still, it's stupid thing for him to suggest. There's always time for war. Better to try not to have war.

And another very relevant question, is Can We Afford it? Given that we can't even get a budget going, it seems the answer is, "No, we cannot."

With a 20,000 lb curb weight, the nuclear bomb that North Korea has devised can't be lofted by ANYTHING in their current launch inventory (No-dong, Taepodong-2, Unha-3, KN-08). Of course it is possible the North Koreans have a much lighter and weaponized A-Bomb or H-Bomb (not likely), but I seriously doubt it is rocket launch vehicle-ready and has significant yield.
Why do I have this opinion:

http://www.armscontrol.org/act/2013_03/Prelude-to-an-ICBM%3FPutting-North-Koreas-Unha-3-Launch-Into-Context
North Korea's Rocket Launch Vehicles:
Based on the size of the missile, the fuel composition, and the likely fuel capacity, it is estimated that a two stage variant would have a range of around 4,000 km (2,500 statute miles) and a three stage variant would be capable of reaching as far as 4,500 km (2,800 statute miles), giving it potentially the longest range in the North Korean missile arsenal.[2] The burn time of each stage is a little over 100 seconds, thus allowing the missile to burn for 5 or 6 minutes. Speculative variants of the missile could be capable of a range of approximately 9,000 km (5,600 statute miles).[4] At maximum range, the Taepodong-2 is estimated to have a payload capacity of less than 500 kg (~1,100 lbs).

Latest News from the Cold Warriors/Nuclear Arms Race Instigators:
"North Korea probably has advanced its nuclear know-how to the point where it could arm a ballistic missile with a nuclear warhead, but the weapon wouldn't be very reliable," the Defense Intelligence Agency has concluded.

Here we go again with the cherry-picked/phony/fabricated "intelligence" ever-fanning the flames of war. It doesn't matter who is our President. These conscienceless, immoral, asshole war mongers keep attempting to get the U.S. into armed conflict while always hiding in the shadows, and like rust and cancer, never sleep. The President won't stand up to them. He essentially takes his marching orders from them. So, what else ISN'T new?
John2
(2,730 posts)that information is speculative, depending on how good your intelligence reports are on North korea's nuclear program. Nobody really knows. There have been second hand and third hand reports from satellite imaginery and defectors. There are also intelligence reports that North korea's nuclear capability is far more advanced than some expect, such as from Pakistani reports.
One Pakistani scientist, that was prosecuted for trading nuclear knowledge indicated North Korea's nuclear program was even far more advanced than Pakistan's. They did share information on how to miniaturize nuclear weapons to fit their missile systems for lighter pay loads. They may have the technology to fit torpaedoes with warheads also carried by submarines and bombers. The last nuclear test they conducted may have been with that technology. That is what's unknown. This regime is very secretive and the best military strategy would be what the opposition don't know. It is either a bluff, or they are telling the truth. The only way one would know is a War itself.

Yeah preemptive strike we all know how well that went in Iraq. If you are going to preemptively strike a nation you better be willing to stay there for the long haul and rebuild and clean up the mess. This would actually be good in NKs case but I'm sure we don't have the money or will to do it. Not to say anything abut the possibility of sparking off WWIII and sending the world into a depression.
TwilightGardener
(46,416 posts)some nuclear capability, and they are just starting to use it now, to threaten everyone and their grandma. If they were feeling that they may be attacked, they'd mobilize their armed forces and move things around. Instead they're just loading up a couple missiles and doing a ton of trash talk. Not saying those missiles couldn't have something scary on them, because they actually might be lunatics...
