Conservative Media Watchdog Questions Whether African-American Host Is Dark Enough

Source: TPM

BENJY SARLIN 5:18 PM EDT, TUESDAY APRIL 2, 2013

Tim Graham, director of media analysis at the conservative Media Research Center, questioned MSNBC's description of newly announced weekend host Karen Finney as African-American because of her skin color on Tuesday.

MSNBC touting Karen Finney as another African-American host. Would the average viewer be able to guess that? Or is Boehner a shade more tan?

Finney, a former Democratic operative, has written in detail about her family background: she is the descendant of slaves on her father's side and the great, great, great, great niece of Confederate general Robert E. Lee on her mother's.

Graham has raised some odd complaints about how the media handles race in the past. As Media Matters noted, he once suggested the press was deliberately covering up President Obama's dating history to keep people from learning he had previously gone out with white women.

It is good to know that cons are working hard make sure the most important problems facing this country are brought to the fore. The fact that it is not a problem carries no weight. Hannity, Limpdick, et. al., are salivating and ready to pounce.

Stay classy, cons.

Clearly the average viewer, if they had half a brain, would be able to at least realize she was bi-racial. Clearly, John Boehner is not "a shade more tan" than Finney.

I guess the tweet was really meant for the people who follow Graham, but would never look for themselves to see Karen Finney's complexion. I guess those people are supposed to go to all their friends and tell them MSNBC is trying to claim they are hiring African-American people when they are actually hiring more white people.

Proof again that facts don't matter, or proof of utter ignorance. I can't decide which.
