Protesters urge UK govt. to end nuclear weapons program

Source: Press TV

Aldermaston is a town in south of Britain which is home to the controversial Atomic Weapons Establishment base; a base that manufactures and designs nuclear weapons. It is part of Britain's defence ministry, which seeks to expand its nuclear weaponry in the years to come. However, the heavily guarded base has been under scrutiny from anti-nuclear campaigners ever since the 1950s.

Behind me is one of several protests taking place simultaneously across the perimeter of the Atomic Weapons Establishment base. Protesters believe nuclear weapons do not constitute a defense of a nation, but rather it possesses a risk to the entire planet.

Politicians and speakers from different organizations came together to publicly denounce the government’s plans to spend 100 billion pounds on replacing the nuclear trident system, at a time when cuts are being made in the public sector.

The British government already spends £3 billion a year on developing the Trident nuclear programme. Parliament is currently in the process of deciding whether or not to build new nuclear submarines.

U.S. ally building nuclear weapons while advocating sanctions on another country supposedly her enemy. It is very ironic and why even the U.N.'s credibility should be questioned. You have to wonder if the U.N. is really idependent or a tool used by certain countries to gain advantages. I agree with the protestors. Either nations de-escalate or escalate for more protection, because nations will use them as an advantage amd they will even try to get more deadly technology. Especially countries with crazy religious and supremacists rightwing extremists. If the shoe fits wear it.
