Sex Education Programs For Teens Targeted By GOP Lawmakers

Source: Huffington Post

In addition to passing some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the nation so far this year, Republican lawmakers in North Dakota, Arkansas and Texas are now pushing bills that would defund comprehensive sex education programs for at-risk teenagers.

The North Dakota legislature is currently considering an amendment to an anti-abortion bill that would effectively block a $1.2 million federal grant for a sex education program for teens who are homeless or in foster programs.

Planned Parenthood and North Dakota State University were jointly planning to administer the program, which would have provided counseling and information about abstinence, contraception and sexually transmitted infections. But state Rep. Bette Grande (R-Fargo) proposed to kill the grant to keep Planned Parenthood out of teen sex education in North Dakota, even though the family planning provider does not operate any clinics in the state.

"They're not a part of how we do business in this state," Grande said of Planned Parenthood in January after the sex ed program was announced. "It is an overt abortion industry that we don't want to be a part of."

What this throwback idiot is doing, is increasing the number of abortions.

Stupid can stupid be. The sex education should include the members putting forth these sharia laws.

Dr. John Santelli, a pediatrician and professor at Columbia University's School of Public Health, told reporters in a conference call on Monday that the medical profession and public health communities are united in the belief that comprehensive sex education programs are the best way to combat the country's soaring teen pregnancy rate.

"Unfortunately, this is an area where there's more heat than light sometimes, and political interference is all too common," he said. "We broadly support comprehensive sex education and feel strongly that these programs should be left to health professionals and not politicians."

This is not the only area where members of the right wing think that if they can just shut down the conversation, they'll get their way. They confuse ignorance with innocence, restrictions with freedom.

there are people who have probably been abused in so many ways and then take such an interest in controlling other people's personal choices to such a degree?

I mean, I do think much of it is on automatic, (conditioning) that appears to be a conscious choice to them and others, but is simply the running of software out of ignorance of how that works.

When you are raised in environments where dogmatic moralistic dominance is the primary mode of socialization, what could be expected? That is especially so when you are not yet old enough to make rational decisions regarding the doctrines that are being inculcated to you, then that creates your core model for reality. When it includes the proposition that there is something wrong with you from birth and that not doing the program involves eternal consequences and that you are also required to impose these values on others for their own good, then the results are evident in a moralistic Fascism which tends to impose contradictory impositions on society.

On the other hand, this may be a great business opportunity: The iChastity Belt. With modern technology, it could even text your parents when you are trying to be naughty and recite bible versus, etc.

Let's see... The GOP does not want abortions and they don't want to help with infants once that "sacred life" has been born into dire circumstances, yet they also don't want to educate kids about sex or provide them with condoms even though abstinence-only programs are PROVEN FAILURES.

When I was in school we had to get a permission form signed by our parents saying we could take the course, and last year when my friend's daughter took the course she had to do the same. If parents don't want their kid taking it, it's fine. But it's no reason to ruin it for everyone.
