Kamala Harris returns to California amid wildfires

Sen. Kamala Harris, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, is in her home state of California a day after President Donald Trump's visit there as massive wildfires decimate communities across the West Coast.

The trip coincides with the reemergence of climate change as a campaign issue.
During a grassroots fundraiser Monday with Hillary Clinton, Harris condemned Trump’s stance on the issue.
"The fact is that we are in the midst of an incredible crisis, because our climate is changing in drastic form, which is leading to California burning in many places, which is leading to storms hitting our Gulf Coast repeatedly year after year and getting worse," Harris said. "And we have a president in Donald Trump who has pretty much denied the science and even today, could not with the full voice, speak to the fact that we have to address this and we have to address it around projection of what's predictable, in terms of not only drought, but electrical fires based on lightning, which is part of what we saw in California."

With wildfires devastating the West and a hurricane bearing down on the Gulf Coast, President Trump, who has for years mocked and denied the reality of climate change, was briefed on Monday on the status of fires in California.
During his briefing, which included California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, officials repeatedly invoked climate change and its impact on the state's ability to manage the raging infernos.
Still, even as more than two dozen wildfires roared across California alone, Trump declined to acknowledge the role climate change likely played in fueling the flames.
"We've had temperatures explode this summer. ... We want to work with you to really recognize the changing climate and what it means to our forests and actually work together with that science," said Wade Crowfoot, California's secretary for natural resources. "That science is going to be key because if we ignore that science and sort of put our head in the sand and think it's all about vegetation management, we're not going to succeed in protecting Californians."

California used to burn naturally every year (way back) or so if not the native Indians would burn it to keep the underbrush minimized. But let's thanks the environmentalist who want to save everything. Further we used to selectively log in CA meaning the logging companies in cooperation with the forest service would cut down the big trees and save the medium size trees for the future plus they cleaned out the underbrush and this created a safe healthy forest. But No the environmentalist want to save everything so now we have a very fire dangerous overgrown forest. The fires kill all the animals and we have the worst air quality ever in this state. Think about it, people need to wake up and smell the smoke.
