Over 250 quarantined in Georgia district after first week of school

Source: CBS News

More than 250 students and teachers from one Georgia school district are now quarantined, just one week into the new school year. Multiple teachers and students across the district's schools have tested positive for COVID-19 after classes resumed Monday.

Cherokee County School District is sharing ongoing updates on coronavirus cases in its schools on its website. As of Friday, over a dozen students and teachers have tested positive, sending home hundreds of people after just five days of school.

Since the beginning of the week, at least 11 students and two staff members across elementary, middle and high schools have tested positive for coronavirus. The students' ages span from first grade to twelfth grade.

After conducting contact tracing, the district said at least 250 students and staff who had possible exposure to positive cases must quarantine for two weeks. During that time, students will receive online instruction.

Especially NOW!

It didn't even work out well in Israel after they had mostly quashed new infections there.

Georgia is not making any effort at social distancing. Rather, based on Dr. Trump's statement that children are immune, they fully reopened. Shoot, why not even try a hybrid model at the height of the spread?

That school recently had 9 confirmed new infections, and their superintendent acts like mask wearing can't be enforced. There was also no indication of contact tracing or quarantining other people exposed to them!

I'd like to wring that superintendent's neck!

Write and state emphatically, his facts are false, his logic loopy and his morality missing.

It is what it is, and the Governor's as well.

After a month or so the news reports and families' concerns will force local districts to bite the bullet and close them until it really is safe, not just quarantining select classes for two weeks here and two weeks there.

I can't wait for Oct when the numbers really start climbing again...just in time to vote for the Killer in Chief.

and refuse to do this "in denial" bullshit. In that case, they are either all-virtual or for smaller ones, are doing "hybrid".

11. Don't blame the local school districts. Blame the gov. He is the one who decided that schools

would open and he won't mandate masks for the entire state, so the county/city school systems have no choice. They have to leave it up to the families of the kids who attend. And then there are the poor kids whose parents won't wear masks, because they think the guv'ner is smarter than those school teachers.

The schools in our county open tomorrow. My niece who has one in elem. and one in middle school feels relatively safe. She had to go back to work early (when the guv. opened up the state early) and caught the virus from a co-worker. She brought it home to her husband and 3 kids, including the 3 month old baby. Then she shared it with her father and mother. My brother nearly died and is now on oxygen, probably for life. But they have all been exposed and, hopefully, are immune. I really feel for the families who have tried to be safe, follow CDC guidelines.

the scientists tell them that they are wrong in believing that children either can't get this pandemic virus and will not have serious symptoms or...the administrators should be brought up on charges if these children start dying or are in any way impaired. Just like I hope I see trump, Jarad, Ivanka in the docket at the Hague one day soon. I can dream, can't I?

To wilfully put children in harm's way to prove trump right. Sad dangerous times we live in. I hope the children affected will come through this okay.

The first phase is never going to end as long as they keep shoving premature re-openings down America's throat.

Are the kids entering a learning deficit, which will be tough to climb out of once the pandemic is subdued? Will everyone get promoted to the next grade, regardless of the success of various teaching methods and environments?

It's unfair to pass them on if they haven't learned this year's material.

It's unfair to hold them back when their only problem is a lack of equipment, teachers, and a calm environment for learning.

It's unfair.
