Public health officials said Friday 2,084 new cases were logged during the last 24-hour period, and another 21 people with COVID-19 had died. The last time the newly confirmed case number surpassed 2,000 was May 24, when the state reported 2,508 cases. Officials also placed 13 of the states 102 counties at coronavirus warning level.
Meanwhile, Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Friday announced his administration is filing new emergency rules to require businesses to enforce mask requirements that include the possibility of fines up to $2,500.
Businesses that dont comply will be given a written notice warning. If they dont voluntarily comply, businesses will then be given an order for patrons to leave the property as needed to comply with public health guidance and reduce risks, Pritzkers office said. If businesses still do not comply, they can receive a class A misdemeanor, subject to a fine of $75 to $2,500.

(9,934 posts)A friend's college aged kid has been tested several times (rapid test at Walgreens at least twice and once a sent in lab test), and a few of my husband's coworkers (working remotely since March) have also recently been tested. Lots of free testing pop up sites around Chicago.
If they were now catching more asymptotic cases that can now go into quarantine to stop spread, that is what we need.
Unfortunately in Illinois the death rate which has remained pretty stable for weeks looks to be creeping upward.
And the college age kid that felt he might have it, continued to go out and party before he got first negative results back. The Mom was livid.

Mask compliance is still a problem here. Stopped at a drug store yesterday, and the poor little gal working there got into two altercations with customers refusing to wear masks within the five minutes I was in the store.
