Joe Biden launches new national ad aimed at Black Americans

Source: AP

By KAT STAFFORD

DETROIT (AP) — Joe Biden’s Democratic presidential campaign has launched a new national ad focused on Black Americans, urging them to stand up to President Donald Trump the way their ancestors stood up to “violent racists of a generation ago.”

The one-minute ad, which was shared exclusively with The Associated Press before its digital and television release on Thursday, is meant to drum up support among Black Americans, a key constituency for Biden, ahead of November’s general election. The ad, titled “Better America,” also takes a direct swipe at Trump, without mentioning the Republican president by name.

“We must choose to fight for that better America,” the narrator states. “And just like our ancestors who stood up to the violent racists of a generation ago, we will stand up to this president and say, ‘No more,’ because America is better than him. So we choose to be bigger. We choose to be bolder. We choose to bring back justice, respect and dignity to this country. We choose Joe Biden to lead us all towards that American promise together.”

African Americans have largely supported Biden’s presidential bid and have been credited with single-handedly transforming the Democratic presidential race and cementing his status as front-runner after his decisive primary win in South Carolina.

and the moral middle ground and the moral low ground. Biden understands what America is about. I don't know how we lost this path so much over the last 4 years and really over the last 45 years. Seems to me Reagan just sent us on this greed obsession and that was used to judge presidents and even our Democrats in those years - Clinton and Obama - had to fix broken economies and deliver prosperity first and foremost. Yes they'll be important to Biden, but they're not the only thing.

Joe Biden may indeed bring back dignity and respect to the office of the Presidency but Black America, unfortunately, has never known justice, dignity, or respect. Racism is more American than apple pie and Biden cannot "bring back" what has never been.

As you pointed out, that has never been the norm...but he can and will work towards creating such respect and dignity for POC.

him getting on the ballot in the most competitive swing states (e.g., Ohio, WI), means we can't merely ignore him drawing even a very few votes away from Biden. Why any black person would vote for Kanye if they were well informed about what is going on (and the implications) might seem inexplicable, but Biden needs to make his support for AA's and POC as clear as possible regardless.
