New York judge gives Trump deadline in lawsuit over tax returns following major Supreme Court ruling

Source: Washington Post

NEW YORK —A federal judge in Manhattan has given lawyers for President Trump a Wednesday deadline to say whether he will further challenge a subpoena for his tax documents, part of an ongoing investigation by local prosecutors here into hush money payments made during the 2016 election season.

The order by U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero follows Thursday's highly anticipated Supreme Court ruling in favor of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., who had been seeking the president's tax records as part of a probe into the Trump Organization's role in the payments. In its ruling, the high court said Trump did not have "absolute immunity" from the state court-level criminal subpoena.

Trump could, however, further contest the grand jury subpoena outside of the presidential immunity question. The subpoena was issued Aug. 29 and has been tied up in appeals as part of a lawsuit brought by Trump since shortly thereafter.

"We will respond as appropriate," Trump attorney Jay Sekulow said after Marrero's order Friday setting July 15 as the deadline by which the parties must say if there will be additional legal challenges.

They will try to drag this out until after the November election. If he wins (shudder!!!), then he will just say "fuck no" and have Vance arrested or something. We've gone this far down the rabbit hole.

Good Grief! I'm just glad I have a night guard for my teeth. I would have ground them down to nubs by now without it.

He can challenge a subpoena with any number of legal arguments like you or I could. It’s just that his being president is not a valid legal reason to quash it in itself.

.... eventually ... won:

On December 22, Georgia repealed the law that had put Worcester and Butler in prison, allowing them to petition for a pardon without having to take an oath to leave the state of Georgia or Cherokee land.[24] On January 8, 1833, the missionaries petitioned for their pardon, but it did not contain an admission they had broken state law, and Lumpkin believed its wording was insulting to the state of Georgia. Representatives for both sides negotiated for a new letter to be drafted by the missionaries, which was delivered to Lumpkin the following day. In the final letter, Worcester and Butler appealed to the "magnanimity of the State" of Georgia to end their prison sentences.[25] On January 14, Lumpkin issued a general proclamation,[26] not a formal pardon.[27] Worcester and Butler were freed from prison.[28]

That's what it amounts to.

I know they are just exhausting all avenues of appeals, but it is sort of pointless when the ultimate decision to remedy the problem is TOO LATE.

And we wonder why people throw their hands up and give up on the process...
