Trump calls for 'sick' author of 2016 dossier to be jailed

Source: The Hill

President Trump on Saturday called for Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous 2016 Steele dossier, to be sent to the U.S. and jailed.

“This man should be extradited, tried, and thrown into jail. A sick lier [sic] who was paid by Crooked Hillary & the DNC!” Trump tweeted.

“Bring back Steele!!!” he added in a follow-up tweet.

According to Heidi Blake in her book From Russia With Blood he was head of the MI-6 Russia Desk, with a spotless reputation and a deep knowledge of Russian malfeasance. He has never defended himself, perhaps because he eschews the limelight. But I'd love to hear what he has to say.

The Dossier was 90% corroborated. The right wing always points to the pee tapes as an example of the Steele Dossier being wrong. In fact, the pee tapes were not corroborated, but neither were they disproved.

From Wikipedia:

"In October 2015, Fusion GPS was contracted by conservative political website The Washington Free Beacon to provide general opposition research on Trump and other Republican presidential candidates. In April 2016, an attorney for Hillary Clinton's campaign and the DNC separately hired Fusion GPS to investigate Trump, while The Free Beacon stopped its backing in May 2016.[4] In June 2016, Fusion GPS subcontracted Steele's firm to compile the dossier"

Seems that conservatives weren't too happy with tRump either.

I really don't understand why the news hosts and guests (who should certainly be aware of this info if I am!) don't ever counter this right wing talking point with the truth that it was republicans who first contacted Fusion GPS. In fact, wasn't it a group of republicans who supported Jeb Bush that set this in motion? Why doesn't anyone say this? Ugh!

There have already been investigations that have looked at the Russia investigations and they recommended NO indictments and spoke only of relatively minor flaws. It would take a convincing case to get an indictment. I do not see this happening - even as some warn that it could.

I suspect that what could happen is that new investigations could be announced with lots of fan fare more for affect than actual truth finding or indictments, trials and convictions. All to create a perception that Trump's tweets are reality.

any one of the Mafia families are more honest, and loyal than the tRump clan with the gop enablers. Smarter, too. John Gotti made tRump look like an unmade bed, with rumpled suits, baggy pants and oversized shoulder pads. Gotti was handsome, well dressed and SMART. Imagine this, I would have preferred a Mafia family in the WH than the crooked, ignorant, greedy, immoral republicans. Even I have to be shocked at myself! My total disgust for this clown and his administration knows no depths.

However in four out of five of the specific points of contention, he said that Orbis had recorded the information from its source accurately and taken reasonable steps to check it.

On the other point - related to an allegation about illicit payments to President Putin via a middle-man in the 1990s - the judge ruled that Mr Steele's company had "failed to take reasonable steps to verify the allegation".

As a result, he said Orbis must pay £18,000 in compensation to both Mr Fridman and to Mr Aven. The men said that this payment would be given to a charitable foundation.

snip.....

The judge noted that Mr Steele, who appeared in person to give evidence during a hearing in March, had been unable to reveal the identity of his sources to help support his case.

Then ask him if he knows of anything he claimed was false. Then ask if he's hired people ,Russians, or Israeli's to investigation others for him, like he got caught trying to do to Biden with Ukraine. They need to publicly ask him to testify now , make him refuse . They should just go ahead and put it back on him. They already have Steele under oath, but not him.

Exposing the truth? House now needs to ask trump to publicly to appear before them under oath to give him his testimony with proof backing his claim up, or shut up. Even knowing he won't it still puts pressure on him every time he claims things on Mr Steele., where Steele has already testified to them under oath.

it doesn't matter whether or not there is a conviction. That individual is presumed guilty before trial as per Trump's pronouncement if it's covered on FOX. That individual has to hire an attorney with a high retainer. That individual may be not guilty but it depends on the competency of his/her attorney. That individual will have to invest a lot of money to stay out of jail. Trump wins no matter what.
