Trump commutes sentence of longtime adviser Roger Stone
Source: Politico
President Donald Trump has commuted the sentence of longtime adviser Roger Stone, who was found guilty of seeking to thwart congressional and FBI investigations into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
A senior administration official confirmed to POLITICO that Trump commuted Stone's sentence.
Stone, 67, was sentenced in February to three years and four months in prison after a trial late last year where a jury found him guilty on all seven felony charges brought by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Though rumors are that Putin paid off all of Trump's debts.
If that's true that might even be more corrupt.

(13,058 posts)a full pardon. This commutation is meant to keep him out of jail until Trump can give out a full pardon after the election when there will be no political consequences.

(18,402 posts)The only thing I can say is at least it wasnt a pardon. He wont have to go to prison, but the guilty conviction will hopefully go with him to the grave. They should etch it on his tombstone.

Of course, Trump also just handed the Democrats a potent, potent weapon.

(36,017 posts)On a calmer note,
A personality cult that tries to establish rule of men over Rule of Law purposely conflates 'loyalty' with 'patriotism.'
Most of those who put party henchmen or president over country are loyalists who simply substitute "patriotism" for their core value of "loyalty."
We who know what a Rule of Law nation is, know that they fool no one but themselves.

(2,177 posts)pardoned, then he has immunity and could be forced to testify against Trump in any trial. This way, he can still plead the fifth at any trial and can't be charged again. This is IMO, but any legal eagles could weigh in if this is correct or not.

Trump is up shit creek, however, when it comes to those who have not been convicted yet. I expect blanket pardons and a last minute transfer of power to Pence in exchange for a promise that Pence will then pardon Trump.

(26,280 posts)If so then that might provide a wedge to crack him open because if he lies he faces new charges and the only way to not face new charges will be to tell the truth.
