A video taken by an onlooker Monday evening shows a Minneapolis police officer keeping his knee on the neck of a motionless, moaning man at the foot of a squad car. The man later died.

The video, captured by Darnella Frazier, begins with the man, who is black, groaning and repeatedly saying "I can't breathe" to the officer who has his knee on the man's neck. The officer is white.

(36,824 posts)The arrest took place on Monday evening, the police said in a statement, after officers responded to a call about a man suspected of forgery. The police said the man, believed to be in his 40s, was found sitting on top of a blue car and appeared to be under the influence.
He was ordered to step from his car, the departments statement said. After he got out, he physically resisted officers. Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress.
The statement said that officers called for an ambulance and that the man was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

The police department have already stated that the officers' body cams were operational,
so it will be hard to backpedal if they later claim otherwise.
Do you think the police will release the video images from the officers' body cam?

What prompted the take down if he was already in cuffs?

(34,131 posts)The part where they take Floyd out of his car begins about 3 minutes in. He appears to have fallen and they drag him up and take him to the side of a building.
It does not show the actual take down, just the events leading up to it. It looks as though Floyd was having trouble walking with his hands behind his back and held awkwardly by the much shorter police officer.

Neither of them gave a damn and this suggests its not the first time theyve pulled something like this.
How traumatic for that mans family and the onlookers. This is exhibit 1 for generating culture/race/civil war. Id be willing to bet a good amount that thats a trumper, feeling like its his right to crush another human.

(38,414 posts)I don't think it just dawned on him at that moment to put his knee on that man's throat...How could anyone come up with an idea like that to restrain someone? Think about that for a moment. Who taught him to do something like that? Or was it really his own idea? That is an important question in my opinion.

(9,958 posts)Especially minorities. Much of the world sees the US as a country overrun with white men openly carrying assault weapons. They see the police as terrifying people who attack minorities at will for no reason. Many Ive talked with have no desire to visit the US because they see us as a backward country run by violent vigilantes. I wonder if, prior to the virus, Europe was overrun with hordes of tourists because fewer want to visit the US. There are times even I dont want to be here.

(17,862 posts)is the most damning part of this event. A man is in critical condition after being restrained by the LEO, and his supervisors weren't able to find out (or didn't want to find out) this basic fact of what happened especially with all the witnesses around.

Every single person in every single community deserves to feel safe, Klobuchar said in a statement. As the Mayor of Minneapolis noted, this tragic loss of life calls for immediate action.

(8,684 posts)So after trump and GOP kill over a hundred thousand poor souls to the virus, I assume they get paid administrative leave. And the Georgia father son bubba duo will still get stimulus checks. After a weekend of war documentaries, seeing all the hell our soldiers Have gone through, and so many brutally killed for this country and its flag, this is what we end up with. This veteran has very little to stand for any more. I will be taking knees as the anthem plays, and will not salute the flag until GOP are demolished. I use to proudly salute the flag each time a boarded of left my Destroyer. DDG 18. Now, I have no pride for the flag because of this Destroyer DT 45.

(2,957 posts)...for the right wing media to dredge up videos if cops killing white people under these same scenarios. A few cons out there are trying to say that police abuse whites just as much as blacks. You'd think that Fox, Hannity, Tucker, Blaze and all the right wing nuts would have come up with abundant video evidence of this by now.
But, alas, all they can find is Cliven Bundy and his rebels getting off scott-free for taking over a federal office with guns.
