(18,470 posts)There actually are physical and/or mental reasons for not wearing a mask
"That mask on my face is total trauma to me," said Lisa Hill, of Hardin County.
Holding up the cloth mask her friend sewed for her, Hill said she tried wearing it. But she just can't do it.
"I had a cloth put over my face. I was passed out. Until I came to, I was beat and abused," Hill said. "People are raped, molested, anxiety, PTSD -- it's all real."
She goes on to say it caused her panic attacks when she tried and a doctor said with PTSD it was pretty much useless to tell people like that to calm down, "suck it up" or put a cloth across their faces. Of course the purists here will be on the warpath about that young woman being unable to wear a mask.

(9,998 posts)And obviously the store, like many, can't be bothered to do ANYTHING.
I applaud these people for telling her where to go.

(18,470 posts)And if she flashes a letter from her doctor explaining why she cannot wear a mask the store just stumbled their way into a law suit and the customers into harassment charges. I wear a mask when I go out but if anyone on any side of the political equation gets in my face I call the cops first and ask questions a bit later on.

(713 posts)cigarettes they claimed were RECOMMENDED by ACTUAL doctors...WTAF?! Heck I remember my grandmother telling be about a few friends she lost in car accidents in the late 20's, 30's & 40's from people riding in Jump seats, being catapulted through windscreens, & untempered glass, etc. She told me that there were FAR MORE people who cheered the addition of first tempered glass & then, seat belts...(& apparently, people weren't too broken-hearted to see the jumpseat fade into history, either), than those who bitched & moaned about their addition.
I've been telling people I love & care about to act as if ANYONE they might come in contact with, be around, walk past, etc are LETHALLY RADIOACTIVE, like {WALKING CZERNOBYLS}, (Education background is HEAVY biosciences, with an concentration in virology & molecular biology). Alot of the people I've been begging to use whatever passes for a brain to, if NOT for themselves, then for their communities, loved ones & friends, TAKE.THIS.$H!T.SERIOUSLY! Because not too, in deference to the OBESE ORANGE SPLAT, (pathological liar), is analogous to allowing a symptomatic rabid animal to nip at their hands & fingers. It's THAT simple.
I've been telling my Baby to, when possible, to stay AT LEAST 15 FEET away when inside an enclosed space...IN EVERY DIRECTION, (he's an IT ENGINEER), which is something I've noted that all too many places are NOT taking into consideration. They're making sure that people are 6 feet from others IN FRONT OF & BEHIND THEM but they are NOT that far from others BESIDE them.
I'll NEVER understand the nonsensical suicide so MANY seem to be bound & determined to commit for ACTUAL heartless & greedy elites who couldn't care less for them as long they make the money to be depositted into their already bloated accounts... I DO NOT understand why people refuse to take this seriously, DEADLY seriously because CoV19 a DEADLY virus & it KILLS...ALOT!!

(4,825 posts)are suffering from PTSD. And, if someone is unable to comply with mask wearing for whatever reason, there are other means of getting their shopping done w/o entering a store mask-less, and making people feel anxious. It's a two way street. Seeing someone without a mask can make one feel anxious.

(39,278 posts)New Yorkers have been annihilated by this virus. If you cant suck it up and wear a mask its up to YOU to make your case up front BEFORE you enter the store and not leave mediation to strangers who are playing by the rules in the frozen food aisle.

(66,087 posts)Not to mention asthma, COPD, and heavy smoking.
Not one of them has asked me to provide them with a mask-wearing exemption letter.
I'm trying to imagine someone in World War II with a condition that causes them to blurt out ship sailing times and destinations, which could leave them vulnerable to enemy shipping attacks, and asking for a medical exemption to continue to do so in public.
I don't think it would happen. Such a person would probably be told to stay home, and away from places where their conversations could be overheard.

(15,246 posts)Too many people freaking out. There was a guy here in Pennsylvania that got, or nearly got, arrested for not wearing a mask into a store despite having a signed doctor's note for why he was not wearing one (medical conditions precluding mask wearing are allowed).

(44,962 posts)If any of them are infected, they could releasing a bunch of viral particles when they are screaming on top of their lungs even if they are wearing a mask. Virus is very small and will pass through the cotton homemade masks and even surgical masks. These masks are also not sealed to the face so there is plenty of spaces for viruses to escape. I don't think that's the way to go.

(2,680 posts)If they are not screaming and yelling at us, or rage-shaming us, then we are doing it to them.
Mob hysteria is not a good look on either those who understand masks can be helpful or those who believe it's a step too far.
Sure, the masks have some logic behind wearing them. But screaming isn't a way to persuade others that they have a rational case to make.

(449 posts)The mask is to protect me from you shedding virus cells. A huge percentage of folks are asystematic and don't know that they are spreading the disease. And masks have been proven to be very effective in keeping large droplets from being released.
Wearing a mask is not a matter of personal freedom and your decision to not care if you get infected. It is to keep you from infecting others. If somebody is willing to spread the disease and harm others then they should be prepared for the backlash.
