Hong Kong police fire tear gas, water cannon at protesters

By ZEN SOO

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong police fired tear gas and a water cannon at protesters in a popular shopping district Sunday, as thousands took to the streets to march against China’s move to impose national security legislation on the city.

Pro-democracy supporters have sharply criticized a proposal, set to be approved by China’s rubber-stamp parliament this week, that would ban secessionist and subversive activity, as well as foreign interference, in the semi-autonomous Chinese territory.

The pro-democracy camp says the proposal goes against the “one country, two systems” framework that promises Hong Kong freedoms not found in mainland China.

Crowds of demonstrators dressed in black gathered in the Causeway Bay district on Sunday, chanting slogans such as “Stand with Hong Kong,” “Liberate Hong Kong” and “Revolution of our times.”

They also have microwave heater weapons, and high decibel sound machines if the tear gas and water canons don't work......

All one has to do is read about Tihamin (sp?)Square and what the Chinese did with all the protestors after the camera man took the picture of the student standing in front of the tank. It was horrific. They made sure there were no cameras and massacred them all........

Trump probably reads about it every night before bedtime, so he can dream of having such sadistic power to use against anyone that speaks/rallies/demonstrates against him.......

People who speak or write of Trump being a Narcisist and Psychopath, would be better to also use the word: "SADIST"

Nor is there any significant support inside China for the demonstrators in Hong Kong. Good luck.

What nation would tolerate "secessionist and subversive activity," promoted by foreign rivals?

It't too bad for HK, but i think they would be better off to accept reality, and try to make the best out of it.

I have nothing but respect for these people standing up to a brutal totalitarian government that stomps on human rights and refusing to give up because they know they are right.

Tibetans, Uighurs and now Hong Kongers.

If I were a Hong Konger, I’d be making plans to get out right now. I know many did before the 1997 handover.

Their treatment of their Muslim minority is horrible and their imperial ambitions in the South China Sea are nothing but open theft and some people still say we mustn't upset China.

However, to associate the virus with China during this pandemic is to help the GOP campaign narrative
