2,000 join rally against Newsom's stay-at-home coronavirus orders at California's Capitol
Source: Sacramento Bee
It was the largest protest rally in Sacramento so far over COVID-19 shutdowns with haircuts on the side.
At least 2,000 demonstrators came to the Capitol on Saturday to march around the grounds, feast on barbecue and demand that Gov. Gavin Newsom lift his restrictions on business, religious gatherings and other trappings of everyday life.
The demonstration, dubbed Liberty Fest, was a cross between a tailgate party, music festival and political statement. Organizers said it would be countrys largest Memorial Day weekend protest against coronavirus stay-at-home orders.
A massive throng gathered along 10th Street, facing the west steps of the Capitol, with hundreds arriving hours before the official noon start. Two busloads came from Southern California, organized by anti-vaccination protesters.

THAT is how they honor Americans who died for their country in World War I...which overlapped a pandemic?
EDIT: According to Stanford University: "An estimated 43,000 servicemen mobilized for WWI died of influenza."

(15,001 posts)"The Great Shake Theory" postulates that when God created America he grabbed it by its Maine and shook -- and everything loose rolled into California.
As a lifelong resident of the Golden State, we see proof of this on a disturbingly regular basis.
Best to remember, though, as we see such scenes, that there are over 40 million people in the state who did not go to the beach today, did not seek a haircut, stayed out of gyms, and didn't feel the need to agitate in favor of putting their neighbors in danger.

There still is a lot of Atlantean magic flying around, and that's why so many get weird there.
(Even evil magic, that's why California's GOP is so stupid!)

(9,011 posts)And yes, there are plenty of idiots in California. Many are transplants from other states, including myself but I've been here for 31 years. I've lived here longer than I did in my home state.
Native Californians - those born here are typically the most adjusted people and the nicest. Then there's the rest. The transplants will always pour in and then they pour out after major disasters, recessions, etc. Rinse and repeat.
I suppose the stream will lighten up a bit for the next year since Hollywood is shut down. Many people come here looking for fame or to work in the industry.

My goal was to have the surgery before the beach drew more outsiders and added to our exposure. So far, we've been very compliant and have pretty good numbers.

The GOP used a popular movie actor, to have him recalled and replaced by the actor.
I suspect the GOP is up to this same theme again with Newsom.

(36,227 posts)Don't worry, though, in actuality it will probably be less than a dozen or so -- the worst case scenario is highly unlikely. Losing a half-dozen or so is more like a statistical certainty. And isn't that worth it, really, for the freedom to spend an hour or so outside doing, umm, basically nothing, even given that if they hadn't all shown up at the same time, the fatalities would most likely be zero ?

Before the pandemic their was a group that was trying to recall Newsom, the very same people that complained that the democrats were trying to reverse Trumps election with impeachment. They just hate everyone and everything and are ignorant and they like showing it.
