The director of the FBI, James Comey, met in secret with members of the Senate from both parties to discuss the looming investigation into Trump. During this meeting, protocols were put in place to prevent individuals in Trumps administration from destroying documents which may be later used as evidence of the administrations complicity.
While Trumps adviser Steve Bannon, who might as well be the reincarnation of Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels, has moved to make the White House entirely paperless to protect the administration from later prosecution for their criminal conduct, he will not be able to save Trump from an official investigation into his ties with Russia.

The leading Democrat who sits on the intelligence committee, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) confirmed the committee is actively pursuing an agenda to stop Trump and his team from destroying evidence:

". . . actively pursuing an agenda?" No protections in place - not even a federal court order - but we are "actively pursuing" (working on) "an agenda" (a plan). Surely this isn't THE James Comey at the helm. No. Yea?
Here democrats. Take this L and call it a day.
UNfuckingBElievable.

I'm stunned by the smoke screen. It's just the right amount of bait to get attention. It's just enough action to possibly get Trump but not enouph to turn the table on the real actors, thieves and traitors. Just enough time and room for some to slip out the door.
There's ear fucking going on here.

(5,730 posts)Otherwise, an order, a resolution, a subpoena , something?
Comey has done 1 thing out of 100 right in his professional life.
Also, he does it on a Friday afternoon, when they are trying to catch flights for a 3 day weekend, so they aren't asking many questions.
Not buying it.

(1,387 posts)I am just as leery of Comey as the rest of you.
But, please remember, Obama ,(though upset with Comey) on more than one occasion after the election, made a point of stating his confidence in him. How much do you trust O's judgement ? (He certainly knew & knows a lot more about all this than we do).
I'm doing may damnedest(as hard as it is) to keep my faith in Comey & his sense of right & wrong. He may very well be as outraged as the rest of us that anyone would dare sellout our democracy.
P.S. When Trump threw Comey that kiss and beckoned him over ,at the WH, I got the feeling Comey would rather have been anywhere else in the world.A gut feeling.
(Am I kidding myself ? Should I change my handle to Candide ? "The best of all possible worlds".
But if I weren't optimistic by nature, I'd be a republican.)

(14 posts)Don't you only destroy evidence if you have committed a crime and are trying to cover it up????

(1,264 posts)I don't know how you protect documents from destruction short of having armed guards watching every Drumpf staff member in every room of the White House. I recall reading (and others can point to the source, I'm sure) of legal cases that Drumpf drew out, on and on, by first claiming there was no evidence, then denying access to the evidence (taxes, anyone?) and lastly actually destroying evidence and going "oh, sorry!".

(14 posts)I agree the evidence will probably end up like the 2005 CIA torture tapes..... oops, destroyed.
Maybe the info will be leaked or taken out of congress on a thumb drive...???

(5,730 posts)Not make sense. I was a lawyer. In every case, tax returns came out. They were usually filed in the court case and made a part of the public record. Relative to almost everything. Punitive damages. Income in a divorce. Child support.
People in NYC, Florida, other places where he has been sued, go check the court files.
I cant believe no hacker has gotten these. Are there no hackers or leakers on the left.
There may not be much we dont already know at this point. We know he didn't pay taxes, Etc. However, how is it that he hides all info and gets away with it?

(15,278 posts)Some of Trump's tax returns are public as part of discovery in lawsuits. Who knows what might come out of the lawsuits he's currently defending. However, Trump isn't the only person who can release his returns. If they were also signed by Ivanka or Marla Maples, they can release them. There was speculation that the most recent NY state returns that were anonymously sent to NYT came from Maples.
I think once Trump's approval rating dip into the low 30's, a lot more stuff will come as Rs run away from him.

(15,278 posts)Amusing that, if true, Bannon thinks being "paperless" makes it easier not to leave tracks, not necessarily. Anyone you are sending electronic info to usually keeps it in some way. Most will print out a copy. I suppose the tech savvy will save info to their own thumb drive/SD card, etc. Some people write a memo for the record for themselves. I used to do for verbal orders and/or meetings off my contemporaneous notes, usually the same day, listing all the participants and what was said by whom. I still do this when I have discussions that need to be documented for future reference. No one knows who is keeping what information just to protect themselves or cover their own behinds or where they are keeping it.

(5,624 posts)Did they remove the delete key from the keyboards? Do they have some "secret" backup copy created every time they type a word, generate an email, etc......? Don't they use UNAUTHORIZED software to delete emails or encrypt them? don't they have their own private servers at the RNC to protect themselves? Aren't they doing everything they've accused HRC of?
Short of bugging the place, how will they ever get the goods to send all of these ba$tards to jail for the rest of their lives?
How is it possible to stop anyone from destroying evidence? Perhaps they better patent the process......
