https://weather.com/news/news/southeast-idaho-earthquakesOne of the strongest earthquake to hit Idaho in years struck the southeastern region of the state Saturday night, followed by more than 40 smaller quakes throughout the night.
According to the Idaho State Journal, residents in Caribou County were startled by the 5.3-magnitude earthquake that hit shortly before 6 p.m local time Saturday. No structural damage or injuries were reported.

Researchers monitoring the seismic activity at the infamous Yellowstone super-volcano have claimed that the current swarm of earthquakes is the largest to have ever been recorded with an astonishing 2300 tremors since June.

(111,124 posts)The Yelllowstone plume might be on the move. While it's likely to come through NNE of the caldera, it'll go through any weakened rocks it can find.
The next Yellowstone eruption won't be at Yellowstone. It will be to the north. My best guess is that it will give plenty of warning, unlike that silly disaster movie of it.

(48,893 posts)years ago. The eastern Snake River plain was created by a dozen super-eruptions similar to the ones at Yellowstone.
But I don't know if there could be any connection between these recent Idaho earthquakes and the recent earthquake swarm at Yellowstone.
