(110,909 posts)slow cooked with green chile and tomatillos, then pulled like pork. Fill the tacos with whatever else you like.
Turkey is traditional. Pork, beef, chicken, and lamb are all colonial imports.

(58,785 posts)Salute with a Negra Modelo to you. Can't help thinking you've never had my tacos, though, not that they're the best ever, just kinda wonderful anyway.

(54,990 posts)they are as varied as sandwiches (in fact that is essentially what they are)
do you really not like any tacos?

(17,066 posts)... and I'd be okay with it. A taco shell with chili, say. I daresay, one could make a peanut butter and jelly taco if he wanted to...

tacos (insert type of meat: asada, carnitas, pollo, al pastor, de cabeza, camarones, etc) sin verduras.
seriously? not even salsa or pico de gallo?
most street places just give you the meat and tortillas on a plate and you add whatever from a condiment tray

(503 posts)Not even topped with guacamole, sour cream, chopped onion, tomato and cilantro? Not the Taco Bell chopped stuff - the real deal in big chunks.
I'm partial to ranch or nachos flavored shells, myself, but maybe those are too commercial for some. I like them for standing up while I stuff them too.
Best I've ever had were from a Mexican market. Soft warmed corn torillas stuffed with pulled pork and topped with the above chopped items, lettuce and grated cheese, made to order......unbeatable.
But I defend to the death your right to not like tacos.

(3,424 posts)the one thing that will ruin it for me is cilantro. All other toppings, ingredients, great! But I detest cilantro. And sometimes it's mixed in beforehand.
Anyone else who hates cilantro? lol

(503 posts)Fresh cilantro is my favorite herb. It tastes so......clean. I can hardy eat tacos without it. I have had to lately since I haven't grown any this year and keep forgetting to buy it.
<note to self: buy cilantro next shopping trip>
Now, French's mustard I detest so I can relate to anyone who refuses to put it on a hot dog but cilantro on Mexican food? Perhaps you should be sent to one of secret Muslim Obama's Fema camps for reeducation and surgery on your tastebuds. (I jest, of course.)

(3,424 posts)It's funny how some people can absolutely love the taste of something and others hate it. I do know a couple other people who hate cilantro. I think the ones who hate it, really, really hate it. Strange world!

(43,049 posts)enjoy a good one. And I would be fine with a taco truck on my corner as long as it's not a Taco Bell truck.
If Trump ate a taco, would he eat it with knife and fork like he eats pizza?

(15,805 posts)Starting with the tortillas, they come in both sweet and savory varieties. Tortillas come in several different in varieties of flour, corn, and many other ingredients, and in many sizes that can be either steamed, fried or baked, and served crispy, soft, or something in between. Then the choice of all the different tortilla flavors and colors from the traditional white and yellow, to tasty and beautiful colors of tortillas like green from spinach, poblano or cilantro, orange from carrots, pink sriracha, red chile peppers, blue corn, and even an exotic black rice tortilla.
The protein filling mixtures are prepared in so many ways for an endless variety of any meats, fish, seafood, legumes, eggs and cheese, seasoned from mild, to spicy, to OMG call 911! Veggie and bean fillings offer lots of vegan choices as well. Then the toppings... everything! Essentially a taco is still just a sandwich, and from the minimalist plain Juanita taco, to the maxed out, two handed, stuffed and loaded masterpiece, you really can find the perfect taco to match your own preferences.

(9,232 posts)Makes my favorite taco. (I'm Pennsylvania Dutch). With real summer tomatoes and plenty of cheese and sour cream, nothing better!
malthaussen
(17,066 posts)... that would get in the PA Dutch fix. German chocolate taco? It should be possible.

(2,769 posts)And I think its from having my kids make that awful Old El Paso mix which stinks to high heavens.
And I'm not fond of even a better quality taco. It isn't the fillings, I just don't like that crunchy experience.

(10,070 posts)Small corn tortillas, as fresh as you can get them, heated on a hot grill for a few seconds on each side then filled (but not overfilled) and eaten asap - that's how we do them in these parts! None of those TexMex/Taco Bell stale fried "shells" that break up and get the innards all over the place when you bite into them. And none of those flour excuses either (well, maybe for fish tacos) - save those for burritos and those so-called wraps.

(53,410 posts)A taco done right is one where you take a tortilla and load it up with your favorite food, wrap the tortilla around it as best you can and eat it. What's not to like?
