WaPo: Sarah Palin and her onetime fans on the right: It’s so over (*pic warning*)

Last edited Thu Jan 29, 2015, 01:01 AM - Edit history (1)

Sarah Palin’s odd, rambling speech last weekend before an audience of committed conservative activists in Des Moines has many influential voices on the right saying that the time has come to acknowledge that the romance has gone cold and the marriage is dead.

This is despite the fact that the 2008 GOP vice-presidential nominee told reporters upon her arrival at the event that she is “seriously interested” in running for president in 2016.

Her address was a 34 1/2 -minute roller coaster ride of cliches, non sequiturs and warmed-over grievances. One line that stood out: “GOP leaders, by the way, you know, ‘The Man,’ can only ride ya when your back is bent. So strengthen it. Then The Man can’t ride ya.”

The critiques have been devastating — and those are the ones from her friends.

(video @ link) it's 1 minute of insanity.

I fully understand the desperate need to believe we still live in a constitutionally controlled democratic republic, even when it obvious we are not. And those that are desperately hanging on to that dream have no arguments, they just rely on mockery.

Is it because I am a water-carrier for the 1% who own, operate, and control this board?

Truth is you call other posters authoritarians, Third Wayers, DINOs, etc. on a daily basis - and yet you're still here.

I think that you think that anyone who challenges you're ridiculous assertions is to be labelled as "siding with the 1%", simply because it's an easier response than actually backing up those ridiculous assertions.

You were asked - repeatedly - to explain how and why the Oligarch Rulers "allowed" McCain and Palin to be the GOP nominees.

You obviously can't answer the question - and hiding behind the "I don't have to" nonsense just highlights the fact that you don't have a plausible answer.

Just admit it, and move on,

I am glad you brought up the issue of authoritarianism. I think it's a serious problem in the good ole USofA. Bob Altemeyer wrote a great book, "The Authoritarians", which I recommend and is free on the internetz. It's about people that are raised to blindly obey authority and never question authority. They are generally conservatives and abhor whistle-blowers, investigative journalists, protesters, and anyone that dares to challenge authority. They will defend strong authority figures like the President, and the NSA/CIA Deep State. IMHO they are a great threat to our form of government.

140. You stated that the Oligarch Rulers "allowed" ...
Sat Jan 31, 2015, 03:59 AM
Jan 2015

... McCain/Palin to run as candidates. You then posed the question: "Then why do you think they allowed McDipShit and Palin to be the Republican candidates?"

So someone asked the question - Why did they? - and you refused to answer.

The only one playing games here is you. You make sweeping declarations about "knowing" what's going on behind the scenes, "knowing" about the nefarious doings of the Oligarch Rulers. And whenever someone asks for an explanation, you accuse them of "playing games".

"They are always asking questions, rarely speaking to actual issues."

YOU raised the issue - YOU posed the question. It seems rather silly to be accusing anyone else of game-playing, given those facts.

Why don't you just admit that you don't know what you're talking about? Do you have any understanding of how transparent it is that you don't have any response at all, and that's why you have to constantly come up with excuses as to why you can't back-up any of your ridiculous theories?

As for thinking that all Obama supporters are "authoritarians", another one of your oft-cited theories, taking such a position is both politically ignorant and pathetically naive. The idea that support of a president, a political figure, or a political party is equivalent to "blind obedience" is - well, to put it bluntly - just too fuckin' stupid for words. It is THAT kind of narrow-minded, black-and-white thinking that I expect from our friends on the other side of the aisle. It's downright sad to see it demonstrated on what is supposed to be a "Democratic" website.

To explain their theory of events, contrary to the official story. So that then folks like yourself can ridicule it, not because they are wrong, but because for you its fun to bully anyone that doesn't have the State or the majority that are conditioned to accept their theories on their side. You're just sore that Rick is withholding explaining to you the obvious this time. And you still ridicule. Now THAT'S funny.

But its hardly a "conspiracy" that the US is an oligarchy. Which is, as you well know, Rick's point.

Or do you want to argue with the recent study by Princeton University Prof Martin Gilens and Northwestern University Prof Benjamin.

This is really funny, since I'm on the outside looking in, that is. They think they're going to somehow get rid of the Tea Party darling just because she's bad for their party? I can't decide if I should be laughing hardest over the fact they've just figured this out, or that they think they can put Caribou Barbie in a corner and expect her to stay there. Do they honestly not understand how many of their nutty fringe have been defending her honor since 2008 with a rabid passion? How many of them either want to marry her, sleep with her or be her?

The GOP climbed in bed with the the ignorant Tea Party in private and embraced them with their open arms in public. They became the political equivalent of the most ill advised Hollywood couple, think Jessee James and Sandra Bullock. Everyone with half a brain watching from the outside knew it was an epic disaster just waiting to happen, but the people involved refused to see the obvious so long as they were both getting what they wanted out of the deal at the time. Now they believe they can just split from their public romance none the worse for the experience? Pretend they were never really that into the partner they whispered sweet nothings to, and promised all their dreams were about to come true, that this time it was for real and they were going to own the world together? Now, when their once beloved has become a burden to them they're just going deny the raw passion they proclaimed for them and walk away? I think not!

The Tea Party nutty fringe is not going to go gently into this good night. They'll call out to their right to bear arms brethren, put on their Don't Tread On Me T-shirts, and drape themselves in the American flag. They'll gather up their port-a-potties and bread bags and march on these want to be oppressors! This isn't over yet Republicans, you told them you loved them and now you think you can just spit on the symbol of all the things they stand for and not face the consequences? Well, we'll just see about that!

As for myself, I'm stocking up on popcorn and planning to enjoy the show.

Palin was "mercilessly...pilloried" because she was an idiot then and still is now, and it was obvious to anyone with half a brain.

It was completely justified.

Furthermore, if he really felt she had to "sober up" after the 2008 election, then isn't that admitting she was a maniac during the elections?!
